Recommend me a PC sandbox game

Nope, I haven’t yet, but it’s on my rainy day list.

And yes, **DayZ **is positively rife with East Europeans from what I hear, and they seem pretty aggro about their raiding :). Then again, **DayZ **in generalseems (haven’t played it) to be very much a Getting Ganked For Your Stuff Simulator, so maybe it’s business as usual :).

I admit this does sound super fun. I checked out their website and the little Kerbs are pretty cute. (My first goal is Anno 2070 but I’m bookmarking this thread for future reference.)

If Civilization sounds like too much, Kerbal will definitely be too much. I suggest watching Youtube videos of it before you get it and get frustrated with it.

It’s a fantastic game, but it’s not what I’d consider relaxing.

What, you guys don’t relax by doing intuitive calculus in your head?

I agree on watching Youtube videos before buying, especially Scott Manley, an astronomer. Don’t be discouraged by the inevitable explosions/stranding in space/high velocity lithobreaking when you try the demo.

I have found it relaxing in the way that doing a task that highly cerebral activities can be. U just had to accept that failures are sources of improvement and amusement.

First off, I’d like to second Terraria and Banished. They’re each very engrossing, and I’ve gotten many hours of play out of each of them.

Well, your first few games are likely to end in disaster, but once you get the hang of things, it’s actually a rather easy game. The game is actually a kind of puzzle, and the solution yields a thriving pioneer town. Modding support was recently added to the game, and there are already a few interesting tweaks out there (e.g. an Adam and Eve difficulty level for an even harder start than hard mode).

I picked up The Sims 4 on the release day. I like it a lot, and have been playing the hell out of it. It’s not bug-free, but the roll-out is a lot smoother than I’ve come to expect from any new PC game. My only previous experience with the series is The Sims 2, mind you, but this new game is a big step up from it in most respects.

I liked Civ IV a lot more than Civ V. Civ IV (but not V) has an in-game world editor (read: cheat mode) that you can use to save yourself from some of the mistakes you’ve made (e.g. you can turn the barren terrain around a poorly-located city into more fertile terrain, or you can make an invading enemy army vanish) as long as you’re in single player and not all hardcore about things.

There’s at least one In Game Editor mod that’s easy to get and work available for Civ V. No idea why they didn’t have one come with the game, though. Sometimes I’ll have a strategy that requires a particular resource for my starting city and who wants to restart dozens of times until it happens?

Weasel,
