Recommend me an Android Music Player App

I have Pulsar on my phone, and while it works fine for playing albums, it is missing some stuff I’d like to have. Since I got a new car without a CD player having an app I can listen to in the car using Bluetooth is more important.
I searched through lists of best Android apps (Pulsar shows up) but none feature the stuff I’m looking for.

Here are my specifies:
It is free (or pretty cheap).
It can play albums in track order.
It has a good shuffle capability - not just for an album, but for all my music.
It automatically moves to the next album when one is done. Pulsar doesn’t. That means that when an album ends while driving I can either replay it or switch to Sirius.
It should be easy to go to an album. Pulsar is not so good in this respect.
Nice to have - a simple way of synching music with what I have on my PC.

Things I don’t care about:
The look. I have the phone in my pocket when I listen, so who cares?
Play lists. If you can only shuffle playlists, then it must be easy to put all my hundreds of albums into one.
Downloading music. I’ve got enough, thanks.
Lack of ads. If ads don’t break into the music, and just show on the screen, they can play to my pocket all they want.

Anyone have any favorites?

Check out Folder Player, it’s very basic but it seems like it does what you want–if you put songs into a folder it will play them in the order you specified or it will shuffle, and you can shuffle within a folder or point it at the entire directory and it will shuffle through those. Seems like a pretty good shuffle algorithm too, I carry around about 1800 tracks currently on my phone and so far it seems to do a good job of mixing it up.

You may want to check out Rocket Player*. At the top of the screen is a bar menu that allows you so select folders, songs, albums, artists, and genres. For each category you can shuffle by that category.

However, I don’t think it will play the next album automatically.

  • When I first downloaded this a couple of years ago, it was Rocket Player, which I liked so I paid a couple of bucks for the premium version (for reasons I can’t recall, maybe it was to get the equalizers) so what I have is what is called Rocket Player Premium Audio, Today, I don’t see the basic Rocket Player at the Play Store but the developer, JRT Studio Music Players, has an app called simply Music Player. I suspect it’s similar, but who knows? The good thing is that since most players are free, you can test drive them.

1by1 (There’s a Windows version also.)

VLC

Thanks. I’ll check it out.
