Recommend me some Hard Ciders....

I’m a fan of Hard Cider, especially as I don’t like beer.

Please keep in mind I’m in the US, so I’d rather not pay to have Cider shipped from, say, the UK.

I’m a fan of the Hornsby’s Crisp Apple, I find that one quite tasty.
The Hornsby’s Amber, not so much. I prefer my Cider’s wetter.

I’ve had:

Blackthorn (on tap is ok [still dry] bottle is almost undrinkable)
Strongbow (was quite good on tap)
Wyders (various flavors, the Budweiser of Cider, imo. Gives me a headache)
Groundhog (yummy!)
Ace (also good…)
Hardcore (also a bit more bitter than I like, but the Hardcore Gold is reeeeaaally good).

And once, at an SCA event, a brand called K. Haven’t seen that again.

Any Ciders you would like to recommend?

Bonus points if it’s available to order online, since payday is Friday…

Woodchuck. The best there is.

Not much of a cider drinker, but when I drink it, it’s Woodchuck. I wonder how much of it would be required to get Chuck to chuck wood?

Chalk another tally up for Woodchuck (is that what you meant when you said Groundhog?)

Woodchuck is very good indeed. If you like that style, then venture out and try New Glarus Belgian Red. It is a fruit beer (cherry) brewed in Wisconsin. It is truly a nectar of the gods.

Yes, it appears I am indeed an idiot.

I meant Woodchuck.

I am a huge fan of woodchuck, but I can only find it at Beverages and More, which is a bit of a drive for me. Certainly more of a drive than I can make on the way home to pick up a six-pack.

Now to peruse their link and see if I can order online. That would simplify my life.

Well what do you expect, living on the west coast and all! Come to the north east (mostly New England and New York) and you can get all the flavors. Amber, Dark and Dry (my fav), granny smith (second fav), pear, and raspberry.

The stuff is brewed about ten minutes south of my hometown. Yet oddly enough, I’ve never been to the brewery. Maybe I should go for the tour when I move back there this summer.

K’s is available in a lot of places - tastes sort of like a champagne cider to me. I like it. I also drink Woodchuck.

Currently, according to their website, they aren’t offering tours. I guess they just moved/upgraded/something their Cidery, and it hasn’t been set up for tours as of yet.

I’ll be moving this summer, to Pennsylvania. I’m optimistic in my hopes of new/better ciders!

See if you can get your hands on some French cider. It’s usually bottled in wine bottles and stores that carry good wine selections will usually have some, along with other goodies like mead. It’s gooooooooood.

I also love Ace’s pear cider (which they call perry now). Yum!

Back when I could drink I liked Woodpecker cider, esp. on tap. It’s sweeter, and a little milder than Strongbow. Not quite the same flavor as Woodchuck, but close. However, it’s an import, like Strongbow - which will affect cost and availability.

I love Strongbow. Even more wonderful than Strongbow, is Strongbow… WITH GUINNESS. Yup, though finding a place that has both Strongbow and Guinness on tap isn’t always easy, it’s worth looking for, and man does it look all pretty, with the Guinness layered on top of the Strongbow. Two great tastes. Taste great together. Best drink for sitting on a patio enjoying the summer sun.

Um, sorry for the hijack.

We’ve got hard cider here in North Carolina. Of course I can’t tell you much more than that because it’s illegal as hell. I can tell you this, a few slugs and your knees feel weak and your mind feels good! No hangover either.
Nuff said.

I think you’re mistaking applejack for hard cider.

In Canada, I only know of two ciders- Strong bow and Growers. Both are good as far as my discriminating tastes go. I can only reccomend that you drink them cold.

Mmm, Woodchuck. It’s like beer, except it’s yummy.

I’m also a cider fan who doesn’t care for beer.

One that I haven’t seen mentioned already: Magners, especially on tap.

They’re the same animal, actually. A/k/a “whistlepig.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodchuck

I’m going to be ordering from BevMo online on Friday, it looks like.

I think a 6 pack of Magners (because the Irish know their alcohol) and a 6 of Woodchuck.

Mmmmm… gonna be a good weekend.

I may actually make the drive out to see if they have them at the BevMo store before ordering online…
