Please help me, I need some software and I have absolutely no idea what to look for.
I own a small business with a dozen employees. We get files from one customer and need to communicate and transfer files between one each other and then send out a product. Just like most businesses. If we were large I’d pay some IT guys to run a website and we’d all conduct business there, but I don’t have the budget. I need something like a Quickbook’s version of a accountant.
I am familiar with Facetime, Discord and Microsoft Teams, I don’t need to see these peoples faces, enotes and file holding and transfer with PDF, Excel and Word viewing is a must and that is really all we need.
What am I looking for? Could you narrow it down for me at least?
I used Teamwork (https://www.teamwork.com) for my small business. It’s organized around the idea of a project, and is very good if want to organize and share files and track time.
The nice thing for a small business is that is scalable and relatively inexpensive for a small organization.
We just moved all our working projects and data to Google Drive/Workspace. Trying out Google Chat but I am interested in the suggestions for communication / collab tools here.
We have had Google Workspace for about 5 years for our email and website. Photos (this is the big thing) were on a local server but nearly everything else was still on paper or saved to local drives. Up until a couple years ago they were burning the photos to a cd and putting that in the paper folder of the project. People still used word/excel/outlook mostly, and we had remote desktop software set up for working from home.
I now have everyone signing in with their work email to their windows account and working in the cloud on drive. Everyone can open any project folder from any Windows 10 PC. I am experimenting with Google Chat to collaborate on projects, right now with one individual that works remotely. There are other tools I have not tried yet. I am looking for time tracking/project coordination software for field workers that will help us job cost.
Google Drive can be clunky to share to anyone without a gmail account. I will often have to create an open link in this case and this is not ideal. Google apps are functional for simple stuff but just do not have the finesse of Excel or Word. Chat is similarly pretty basic. Google Photos is not integrated in to Drive, so all the project images are stored in a Drive folder for photos. This works out okay though as the Google drive for desktop app treats everything as just another windows folder.
