Recommend some biting satire

The skewering of posturers and poseurs by the satirist’s pen is a fine sight to behold, no doubt about it. I picked up Francis Wheen’s “How mumbo-jumbo conquered the world” recently and it’s whetted my appetite for some political satire.

The few books I’ve read in the area struggle to sustain their themes, they run out of energy (I’m sure Philip Roth is a literary titan, but the one book of his I’ve read: “Our Gang” a satire on Richard Nixon, was desperately mediocre). Can anyone recommend some quality satire?

Anything by Jonathan Swift. He is the Master.
