Recommend some books about arranged marriages AND help ID this book!

It’s a two-fer-one!

Recommend some books about arranged marriages (preferably fiction, or easy to read nonfiction). It can be about any culture.

Second, there is a book that I cannot remember the title of, and I can’t find it in a search on Amazon. It is about an Indian woman and her family’s struggle to find the perfect man to marry her off to. It is set in the modern-day, her family still lives in India, but she lives and works in America (New York, I think?). I think the book did fairly well on it’s release, and I believe it was the author’s (a woman, Indian) first book. Any suggestions?

Could you be thinking of Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s Sister of My Heart? I think this was an expansion on one of her short stories in her collection Arranged Marriage. I recommend both.

For Matrimonial Purposes by Kavita Daswani. It’s hysterical!!

A second vote: anything by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is great, esp. that book of short stories.

jeevwoman won! You get… umm… a cookie?

Pupshaw and dangermom, I will definitely check out Divakaruni

Chocolate chocaolate chip, please.
