Recommend some growly screamy metal

It’s a gender-neutral guys.

If you want to recommend some more female-fronted metal bands, screamy or not, that’d be cool.

The only other one I can think off offhand is Otep. Who is…somewhat more violent than Kittie. But damned good.

It’s hard to tell in the clip I linked to, but Arch Enemy got a female lead singer in 2000.

Coroner is a 3-piece technical/progressive thrash band from Switzerland, who went on hiatus in 1995, and reunited for performing purposes only in 2011.

Often called the Rush of thrash metal, every album they released was a growth from the last, with their “best” being No More Color, although it’s difficult to compare one album to the next fairly.

Mistress of Deception, from No More Color.

Divine Step (Conspectu Mortis), from Mental Vortex.

Serpent Moves, from Grin.

Voivod is a difficult-to-pigeon-hole metal band from Canada (Quebec). Also regarded as very progressive, their sound and style of music has seen many changes since the early '80s. They have many times cited Rush as influential, and have released very good covers of both Pink Floyd, and King Crimson. Many of their albums were concepts, based on their science-fiction creation, the Voivod. Not every album was extremely heavy, but of those, the two I enjoy best are Negatron, and Phobos, when they played as a 3-piece. Their guitarist, Piggy (Denis D’amour), died of cancer in 2005, but they continue to play, and are releasing new music in the next few months.

Nanoman, from Negatron.

Phobos, from Phobos.

If you like Sabbath try some Electric Wizard. They are possibly the heaviest band around, just down in the dirt stoner sludge. I don’t like MJ but I love the music.

when he said sabbath my mind went to e wiz straight away, but they don’t scream. yob seemed more appropriate.

and while e wiz circa “sun has turned to black” is pretty heavy stuff, they are more on the stoner side of things. listen to the link above for the yob outro or that warhorse track. just the weight of that warhorse riff, played in like drop G i think…ugh. it sounds like doom.

Hey know this thread is really old but I love recommending metal bands. I love heavy music but am not trying to hear satanists. Not totally a Christian but not heain the name of the Lord being defiled. So with that said I go t bunch you should check out:

Candiria. Simply the most unique heavy ban you will ever hear. Hardcaore, rap jazz and ambient all together. And they are Brooklyn based. Try “Beyond Reasonable Doubt” if that too heavy try 'What doesnt kill you"

Iwrestledabearonce- Female vocals but her growls are like a fierce man and her cleans are like a pretty, sexy woman. Check out “Late for nothing” and :ITs all happening"

The HAARP machine. Do I need to say more on a message Board like this? Awesomely relevant lyrics.

The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza. Again, a little violent, but certainly has a lyrical tone for the world we live in. VERY HEAVY THO.

The End- Elementary, awesome diverse album. Very climactic reminiscent of Deftones and Tool of you are familiar.

The Dillenger Escape Plan. Just friggin yeah. Nj band thats punky and technical. Heavy but sung choruses.

Mudvayne- LD50. 2001 Classic. Slap bass, great drummer, singy choruses but great.

Skynet- The Wild. Newer, nice stuff

For REALLY REALLY heavy, check out Rings of Saturn (Dingir), Arsonsits get all the Girls (Portals) and Car Bomb (Centralia and w^ww^^w^ or something like that. it just w’s and carrots)

Oh yeah if you’re older and want that sound old school Machine Head (Burn my eyes, the more things change) mite work. A little less heavy try Ultraspank (progress)

You might like some Opeth. They have a lot of variety in their songs, ranging from full-on growly metal to almost ethereal understated acoustic arrangements, and even some complex progressive jazz-type stuff.
