Recommend some Halloween songs

A few other suggestions:

I Walk on Guilded Splinters by Dr. John;

Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) by Jimi Hendrix;

The Witch by The Sonics;

Voices Green and Purple by The Bees;

Psychotic Reaction by The Count Five;

Colma by Buckethead. (This is an instrumental titled after a small town south of San Francisco that consists almost entirely of cemeteries. The perfect accompaniment to a chilly fog-shrouded night in late October.)

Mind Playin’ Tricks on Me by Geto Boys (if only for its trippy feel and the part that begins, "Last year Halloween fell on a weekend…)

Weeeel, y’know, this isn’t exactly a Halloween song, but…it may just help with the springy feeling…

*Spring is here, a-suh-puh-ring is here.
Life is skittles and life is beer.
I think the loveliest time of the year is the spring.
I do, don’t you? 'Course you do.
But there’s one thing that makes spring complete for me,
And makes every Sunday a treat for me.

All the world seems in tune
On a spring afternoon,
When we’re poisoning pigeons in the park.
Every Sunday you’ll see
My sweetheart and me,
As we poison the pigeons in the park.

Tom Lehrer’s Poisoning Pigeons in the Park, a much undervalued and underplayed item.

Or maybe his Masochism Tango?

*I ache for the touch of your lips, dear,
But much more for the touch of your whips, dear.
You can raise welts
Like nobody else,
As we dance to the Masochism Tango.

Let our love be a flame, not an ember,
Say it’s me that you want to dismember.
Blacken my eye,
Set fire to my tie,
As we dance to the Masochism Tango.*

“Totentanz” - Liszt

If you’re going to get “With Her Head Tucked Underneath Her Arm”, look for Stanley Holloway’s performance, the best IMHO.

Dr. Demento always does a Halloween show. You may find some good suggestions in the playlists. From Halloween 2003:

Boris The Spider - The Who
Goblin Girl - Frank Zappa
Cemetery Girls - Barnes & Barnes

Well, I don’t know the artist, but this past Halloween the local community radio station (KFAI, Minneapolis) played a track called “The Creature Stole My Surfboard”. Very catchy, and seems appropriate for a collection intended to sidetrack spring with an appropriately ghoulish feel. :cool:

Also, there is a Concrete Blonde track about vampires. I don’t recall the title right now, but I can look it up and post when I get home from work.

Geez!

You all forgot Warren Zevron’s Werewolves of London?

Or Weird Science, by Oingo Boingo?

Hell, just go HERE!
She’s still the Hostess With The Mostest! :slight_smile:

honeydewgrrl you can find that bit performed by Bing Crosby on a Disney home video release called “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad”.

That reminds me…How 'bout Roky Erickson’s “Night Of The Vampire”, maybe the best halloween song ever!

Found it – Bloodletting by Concrete Blonde

Ya beat me to “Werewolves of London” :slight_smile:

Some others -

Astronmy - BOC
Witch’s Promise - Jethro Tull
Snaggletooth - Motorhead

tisiphone beat me to Tom Lehrer

Poisoning Pigeons:
We’ll murder them all amongst laughter and merriment

Except for the few we take home to experiment :smiley:

How’s these:

Green Manalishi(sp?) Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac. No idea what it’s about but it gives me the creeps.

Almost anything by The Birthday Party.

No Quarter. Zeppelin.

The Asking Tree - The Soft Boys, side two of Only the Stones Remain* which also works

*I broke my copy :frowning:

And now for something so completely old, it just might be considered new: John Zacherle(y). Beside his extensive bio in broadcasting, he released a lot of Halloween music:

Dinner With Drac (A local turntable hit you still hear on the radio in late Oct.)

And a whole host of others:
Hurry Bury Baby
Limb From Limbo Rock
Pistol Stomp

Coolest Little Monster
A Wicked Thought
Ghoul View Commercial
Sure Sign of Spring
Transylvania P.T.A.
Frank and Drac Are Back
Come With Me to Transylvania
Spider Man Lullaby
Ring-A-Ding Orangoutang
Baying at the Moon
Zacherley for President

I guess the only way to close this post is in classic Zacherle form: Goodnight, whatever you are

Check out Electric Frankenstein’s version of “Coolest Little Monster” You’ll love it.
