Recommend some PC gaming sites?

The Game Room here seems to only have a small amount of people that play video games and post about them. I’m looking for web sites and forums that have gaming info, computer games specifically.
I know www.somethingawful.com has some huge forums, including a gaming one. Seems to be pretty heavy on the trolls though. And on steam, every individual game has it’s own forum.
So, any recommendations for computer gaming sites besides those three?

You may want to consider forums run by specific developers for their games. Or forums for specific games.

The forum Spacebattles has a large and active video gaming community and sub-forum.

Reddit.

Yep. Every game you can think of has a subreddit. It’ll also be a good jumping off point for finding other stuff.

Reddit is terrible. It’s just spam.

I like Shacknews. It is an older crowd.

That’s like saying “the internet is terrible, it’s just spam.”* Each subreddit is its own animal. I follow a few for certain games I play and they’re useful and entertaining.

*may or may not be true

For general, all-purpose gaming, there’s NeoGaf.com and Talkingtime.net.

For Reddit, /r/gaming is utterly terrible, but /r/games is… well, not as bad.

Writing about games is pretty universally terrible. The only games related site I could actually recommend is Rock, Paper, Shotgun. They have a few half decent writers and generally only bother with stuff that interests them.

Ok, I will check out the ones mentioned. Thanks for the info so far!
Yes, individual game web sites are a good place for info, but i’m looking more for new games that I don’t know anything about, so I can figure out if they’re worth looking into and spending my money on.

I look at the PC games list on metacritic.com to see what has recently been released; they don’t list every game but they do get many of them. If something looks interesting I check a youtube gameplay video to see if it looks like my kind of game.

I also look at rpgwatch.com – it has some listings for recently released games in the category but has largely become a listing of games “in development” which I ignore since so few of them actually ever get released.

RPS is probably the only video gaming site I’ve seen that’s worth half a damn.

I’m on quite a few specific game forums on Reddit and they are fine. /r/spaceengineers, /r/civ, and /r/arma, and /r/planetside are perfectly cromulent forums.

Try HardOCP and its associated forum. As the name suggests, it’s mainly about hardware, but it’s mainly about hardware used to run games, so you get video card tests, game image quality tests, etc.

Another reddit I can recommend is https://www.reddit.com/r/patientgamers/

It’s for people that don’t need the latest and buy games six months or more after release or wait for steam sales or GOTY editions. I think thats probably most of the people that post on the straight dope who are gamers. Mostly it’s a friendly and helpful community.
