Torchwood is far more adult in content than Dr. Who (at least until the Tennant years; I’ve been unable to watch the ones after that). And I say that as a mom not entirely unopposed to watching hot men have sex with her kids. Er, wait, that came out wrong…
My wife, too. We call her The Pixar Narcoleptic. As soon as anything Not In Real Life comes on, she’s out.
As a new Netflix family, we’re watching this thread and thank you!
… except for my wife (zzzz…)
Um. The daughter started watching Torchwood some time ago, getting it under the radar as a Dr. Who spinoff. This is why we don’t let her pick anymore. I wouldn’t recommend it to other parents, not because of the sexual content, but because of the lack of moral compasses and any kind of professionalism among the characters. Especially Owen.
We’ve tried two episodes of HIMYM. It hasn’t come down one way or t’other yet.
My family lives in Hawaii, and the son and I like some Hawaii 5-0, but it’s not popular among the rest of the team.
I’m checking out the rest slowly. Thanks guys.
Ok. At the risk of looking even more un-cooler than I already do, have you considered some other classics? (MeTV is a great place to find these.)
Bonanza (you all KNEW I would say it so get over it)
Big Valley
Rifleman
Wild Wild West
Gunsmoke
Dragnet (we watch it EVERY NIGHT at 5:00 then go to TMZ. We ain’t highbrow! :D)
Adam-12 (Saturday must view before Dragnet comes on for an hour.)
And coming soon to MeTv - EMERGENCY!!! (I am so happy about this I shouldn’t even bring it up!)
Two series that I recall fondly from when I was about 12 (but haven’t watched since).
Blake’s 7 - British sci-fi from the late 70s early 80s. Pretty (okay very) low budget by today’s standards but a good ongoing story and some memorable characters. Minimal sex and violence by current standards.
Robin of Sherwood, apparently retitled Robin Hood in the US - another mid 80s British series, with good storylines and characters, the first two seasons (of three total) are the best IMHO. Being a period piece rather than sci-fi the relatively low budget won’t be as glaringly apparent to modern viewers. Awesome soundtrack though.
A little note of caution about the Battlestar Galactica reboot - it might be a bit racy for your tastes.
If they made it through Season 6 of Buffy and the Buffy/Spike thing, I think BG will pass muster. If they fastforwarded through parts, then yeah, might want to keep the remote at hand…
