Recommend XBox360 games

I just got a free XBox360 from work (the best fringe benefit, by far, of my 10+ years in the video game industry), and I don’t have any games, so I figure I should buy one or two. The games I like most are action/puzzle games of the Prince of Persia mode. I also like some other random things like abstract puzzle games, wacky Katamari-esque things, and I’m up for just about anything if it’s a high enough quality product.
What one or two games should I buy?

thanks

This may be out of your genre, but I’d recommend Elder Scrolls: Oblivion to anyone. It’s a completely free-form game in which you can be a hero or villan, fight to clear dungeons of monsters or just sit on a roof and watch the sunset. The graphics are breathtakingly beautiful from the lush forrests to the bleak, firey horror of the hell (Oblivion) gates.

You can spend thousands of hours in there doing whatever you please . . . hunting deer, exploring the mountains, gathering herbs and flowers, trading, solving riddles and puzzles, exploring ancient ruins and caves . . . it really is an amazing experience.

Battlefield was good. Hitman wasn’t bad either.

I’m waiting for Madden. I’m buying a 360 just in time for Madden, actually.

Call of Duty?
I say it’s too early. The system has just been released and comparison is still shaky.

I’ve played Hitman, but only on PC. It seems like the kind of game that would be similar, though (not too different a control scheme). I recommend it heartily; it’s great to play through levels over again just to find all the different ways to kill a target.

I am actually not going to recomend any games, only that you should rent some games first.

Part of the 360’s appeal is that its supposed to be a really sharp looking with the HDTV thing, and yet I have played tomb raider legend, and battlefield two , which looks like they have been ported over from the standard xbox with the intention of padding the amount of titles.

I am hoping that when Halo3 is released, its released for the Xbox and the 360 , which would probably be the only game that I would recomend.

Declan

Amen, brother. Halo 3 is one of the reasons I’m getting a 360.

Burnout: Revenge if you’re at all into racing/crashing games. I played it on an 82" projection screen in a theater room once, and it was truly beautiful.

There really aren’t that many great games out yet.
Prey is a pretty decent shooter, although it gets quite repetitive and is pretty short.
If you like Prince of Persia, I am sure you will also like Tomb Raider : Legend, although again this is a pretty short game.
(I am thinking that this will be the case with almost all Xbox360 games. Apparently DVD’s just don’t have enough room to create a decent sized HD-capable game).

I have enjoyed Oblivion : the Elder Scrolls the best this far and have spend a lot of time with it while I am not an RPG-player at all.

I second the suggestion of renting games before you buy them. Also, if your xbox 360 is connected to the internet, you can download demos of most of the xbox 360 games (including quite a few that aren’t released yet). This service should be available, even with an xbox live “silver” membership (totally free). In a related note, the xbox live arcade games may also be a great place to start.

In regards to the shortness of game titles in general, I think it’s more a factor with the developer than the storage media. Games like Oblivion and Ridge Racer 6 have a decent amount of gameplay, whereas other titles like Peter Jackson’s King Kong and Amped 3 ended up being relatively short.

If I get a 360, it will be for Halo3, and Halo3 alone. Which is absurd.

I bought Call of Duty 2, because everyone seemed to think it was good, and I’m having a fun time playing it on super-easy mode, as I absolutely suck at console shooters. It does a very good job of building an atmosphere, and it looks smoking on HDTV.

I also bought Cameo, because it was cheap, and sounded fun, although I’ve barely touched it.
Haven’t gotten the 360 plugged into the internet yet, because our router is in the wrong place.
