So I got the new iPhone4 (upgraded from the 3G), and have been playing around with the video capability. Since I’ve got a 7 month old baby, it’s amazing how often the urge to shoot video comes up.
The only “editing” I’ve got available with it right now is deciding when to start / stop recording. This is actually my first foray into digital video, so the only program I have available is the “Windows Movie Maker” that came with my Vista install, and that doesn’t support QuickTime clips.
So what are some recommendations for someone who just wants to do basic video?
- Get the iMovie app for the phone itself ($5 or $6)
- QuickTime Pro ($30). Does QTPro support other video formats (mpg, avi, etc) or does it only handle *.mov files?
- Stick with Win Movie Maker, but get a mov -> avi converter. I’ve tried a couple free ones, but have had some issues with the output. It looks like I was only getting the audio stream with no video.
So any dopers have suggestions for an amateur videographer? Open source / free would be nice, but may not be an option with Apple formats.
Thanks!
