Reconciling belief with Biblical scholarship and history

I recently read James Kugel’s How To Read the Bible where he gives an account of modern biblical scholarship and traditional Jewish and Christian understandings of the Bible.

Here is an email and response between an orthodox Jew and Professor Kugel:

.

What I was wondering is how to Jews and Christians on this board reconcile their beliefs with modern scholarship? Do you keep separate sphere for history and theology? Do even attempt to reconcile? Do you just deny modern scholarship?

You’ve submitted a pitiful post. Why in the world would you expect us to answer your cut and paste contribution?

When you have the time to summarize this material and post some original thoughts, I’d love to participate.

I agree with The Raindog. I believe this is a sign of the Apocalypse.

Actually, now that I have had the chance to go out and review your links, I find that not only did you rely too heavily on your quotations to make your point, but that your quotations are far too claose to copyright infringement, quoting much more than “fait use.”

I’m shutting this down. If you want to present your own ideas to discuss, providing a link to the specific arguments that interest you, you may do so. However, this thread is done.
