I had to apply and test for a commercial driver’s permit yesterday, but was told that the DMV would not accept my laminated SS card. I laminated it, oh, 20 years ago and have never had a problem. Till now.
So I go to the SS office and apply for a fancy, high-tech PAPER card, for which they make me wait 14 business days. Can’t they just print it out on an HP in the back and hand it to me? Or just let me make my own at home?
I mean, really, what possible difference could lamination make? How does this affect the legitimacy of the document?
The irony is that after I applied for the stupid card and went to the DMV with my receipt, hoping it would be good enough, they never even asked for my card. He just said, “What’s your Social Security number.”
I like their car registration system. I pay my insurance by bpay over the net, take the car in for it’s 6 monthly check/tune and get the dealer to send an electronic pink slip to the RTA and get a receipt number online without even a visit to them.
