Recording Streaming Audio

Is there a way to record streaming audio on my computer? I tried Audacity but the quality was too low. It will need to free.

There are a few options but they vary based on what you are trying to record. Can you please give more details.

This page will tell you everything you need to know.

If you tried recording in Audacity but the quality was poor, there is something wrong. Audacity is capable of recording in the highest quality allowed by your sound card. As soon as you install it, the recording parameters are set at 44,100 Hz stereo. This is the default CD recording standard. So we can rule that out as a problem. You’ll have to come back and give us more information on how you are recording this stream, what program is playing it, and any other thing you can tell us about what you have and what you want to do.

I’ve used Total Recorder for several years. Not listed on the other link and not free (about $18) but they have been great with free updates since I originally bought the app. http://www.highcriteria.com/

I use Total Recorder, too. It works well.

On my previous machine (Win 3.1), I used a shareware version of Goldwave. My audio mixer had a setting to choose which source you recorded from, mic, line, or whatever. However, there was no setting for capturing streamed audio. But there was a setting to record from “All” sources, which included streamed audio.

On my current machine (XP), the audio mixer has no equivalent setting. I fiddled with all the settings anyway to see if I could get anything. Using Audacity I was able to pick up streaming audio only at a very low level, apparently from some kind of residual electronic leakage, and really unusable.

I decided to spring for Total Recorder. It provides its own audio drivers which must be selected before TR can capture streamed audio.

Something tells me the OP isn’t that interested in how to record streaming audio, or he would have been back to his thread by now.
