Recording Streaming Videos in Windows 7?

I can’t believe there’s not an app for this.

I was watching Book TV (C-SPAN2) yesterday, and they said all their shows are available online, so I found a couple of shows I wanted to download. Turns out you have to sit and watch them in real time, which does not fit my go-go lifestyle (you are welcome to picture me as one of those guys riding a bike in the Viagra ads). So I tried to record it.

I have WM Recorder, which works OK but not great for some radio shows I tape off the net, but it didn’t work for this. I also have the Download Helper plug-in for Firefox, which works OK for Youtube videos, but not for this.

It seems to me that it should be easy (for a professional Windows programmer) to capture whatever video and audio is being displayed, but evidently not.

Can anyone recommend a product, preferably freeware, that will just let you do that? I don’t care about automatic conversion, or even scheduling. I just want to be able to record what is streaming on my screen for playback later.

And if there’s nothing available for Windows, is their anything that will do that on Linux?

Thanks.

I hear good things about Stream Transport. And it is free.

By Gadfrey, it seems to work for CSPAN! Many thanks.

If you have Firefox, Flash Video Downloader can do the same thing as Stream Transport with its “Try Alternative Download”, but without having to open another program.

Download Helper is the Firefox add on I use to dl youtube.
