Recording VHS to DVD with Dazzle

I just installed the Dazzle Instant DVD Recorder 2.0 (I’m very much a newbie to all of this). I tried a test recording from my VCR of a 17-minute recording straight from the DVD Recorder icon. When complete, I received a “burn error” message. Although the DVD did play and did have sound, the sound was about 10 seconds behind the video.

I tried again, this time starting the recorder from within Studio 10.7. The recording finished, but then the computer completely froze. After rebooting, I played the DVD. Again, the sound was 10 seconds behind the video. I made sure both times to choose “VHS Input” from the DVD Recorder video source settings. I also chose “best quality” for both attempts.

(Note – As I can’t locate any specific instructions, I am pressing the “Start Recording” button and then immediately pressing the Play button on the VCR.)

Following another suggestion, I went into msconfig and turned off everything in the startup menu and rebooted (the only item not turned off was “USBTip,” as this was related to Pinnacle). However, from the Instant DVD icon, the sound was still delayed by about 15 seconds.

I changed VCR machines and tried again. From the Instant DVD icon, it still started off with the audio about nine seconds behind the video. (The DVD would play, even though I stil receive the “burn error” notice.) However, this time I let the DVD play for a few minutes, and noticed that the sound delay increased. After several minutes, the sound was nearly 50 seconds behind the video.

Finally, I tried it through Studio 10.7. This time, the computer did NOT freeze at the end, although the program did give a “burning error” message. Again, the sound delay on the DVD increased from an initial nine seconds to almost thirty seconds in less than 3 minutes.

I’m running Windows XP SP3 with a 768MB video card. Can anyone give me advice about this?

What is your processor speed, amount of RAM and free hard drive space?

My experience has been that the software that comes with the Dazzle is garbage. I’ve had the same problems you are having. Google would indicate that many, many others are having these problems, but nobody has any solutions except “use different software.” What this software would be, I do not know. I just gave up.

I looked at the specs for Dazzle and you have plenty of speed. I would agree with Wheeljack - seems like the software is just sucky.

Get a free trial of Nero and see if it does what you want. It’s a great program and can do a lot of things, so you may end up purchasing it.

According to their FAQ you can use it for VHS transfer:
