Recreational Astonished Bemusement: The girl in the drawer.
Sheesh indeed. Apparently (according to the, ahem, Metro…) the Madeleine McCann fund organisers were approached for money to help search for Shannon in a particularly clumsy and illiterate manner - the implication being, I guess, that the whole abduction was a botched attempt to defraud money from the (presumably kosher…) McCann abduction fund.
Well, it’s interesting - because I’ve seen news/documentary footage of a few members of the family standing by their back door, talking - with what appeared to me as conspicuous jealousy - about fund raising and how the McCanns have loads of money.

How messed up is this family? I feel sorry for the girl, and at first I was glad she was all right. I still am, but how “all right” can she be? Sure, she wasn’t molested or beaten, but her mind and her role models are harm enough.
The other story–good god. I am sick now. I’m not a religious person, but stuff like that shows me there is true evil in the world. :frowning:

I strongly suspected this whole thing was dodgy when it came out the girl had written ‘I want to go live with my real dad’ in her bedroom. Not a happy house. And when it consists of one woman with, what was it?, 7 kids by 5 fathers and whose current man was 17 (10 years younger and allegedly the possessor of 130 indecent images of kids for which he has been arrested and charged) when they got together the judgmental middle-class bastard in me is not surprised.

And if you look at the picture of the mother closely you can clearly see she has the reduced frontal lobes and enhanced jawline of a con-artist.

That child is not ugly. She’s got a chubby face and nose and she’s smiling widely, thus making her face look even bigger. God forbid a child look like a freckle-faced kid and not a junior model.

There was a money-off subscription coupon in today’s Daily Mail. I sent it off in your name. :stuck_out_tongue:

Still, 7 kids by 5 fathers is better than the other way around, not so?

The girl in the drawer: I burning your tax dollars!

Funny thing is she was on the telly saying “everybody’s judging me because I’ve got seven children by five different men and I’m now living with someone else, etc…” - and guess what - they were right!

Cool and yes - but now I have to find brain bleach and scrub away the images conjured as to how that woman could have 5 kids by 7 fathers.

But on a serious front - there are good, decent people and there are low-life scum who combine grotesque stupidity and selfishness into one unappetising package.

That’s just a fact of life and it’s pointless of us to pretend otherwise. Even Karl Marx saw the difference between the proletariat (good) and the lumpen-proletariat (bad).

That the daughter refuses to return to the family confirms to me that even the Daily Mail can be right about some things.

My Social Worker SO was on my case the instant I expressed my doubts on the case despite the first half hour of her being home from work is generally a despairing diatribe about clients that fuel and supports my prejudices.

I just saw the update on this! That poor girl! I hope she does get into a good, nurturing home soon. :frowning:
