"Rectify" - new TV series on Sundance channel

Oookay. Did the ending really happen? Did the beginning really happen? If the ending really did happen, does that mean that he did kill his girlfriend? He really is creepy, either way.

I’m pretty sure all of it really happened, including the interlude with the Goat Man. Although what that all meant, I have no idea.

Tawney thinks Daniel saw the Devil, doesn’t she? If nothing else, it shows she really believes. If there’s a God, there’s gotta be a Devil.

Whatever happened to Ted (I don’t think he’s dead), he deserves it. What he did with Daniel was like poking a snake with a stick. Gonna get bit.

I don’t think he’s dead either. Daniel said that there are things he doesn’t know… now he knows one of them.

That wrestling scene surely did remind me of that fight in Deadwood that also involved W. Earl Brown. One of the most gruesome fight scenes ever. I would suspect that McKinnon relied on that association for its effect.

There’s a lot of Billy Bob Thornton in Brown.

I agree. That was a classic police choke hold, which will render someone unconscious in a matter of seconds. Continued application will result in death, which is why it is unlawful to use it in some cities’ police forces. Daniel was showing Ted that things aren’t as simple as he thinks, and also exacting a bit of revenge for Ted’s comments.

I didn’t realize that the goat man was the actor from Deadwood. He looked familiar, but I couldn’t place him.

Adelaide Clemens (Tawny) strikes me as being one of those asexual people, at least in the things I’ve seen her in. Her vague resemblance to Renee Zellweger, whom I loathe, isn’t helping. That said, she fits in well with this cast of oddballs.

I just got home and watched the season finale from a week or so ago. I don’t remember all of the characters.

Who was the guy on the lawnmower?

Who was the guy who took his mask off and pissed on him?

Who was the guy who found the dead guy by the stream and who was the dead guy?

I don’t remember a guy on a lawn mower.

The guy who took off his mask is Hannah’s brother – Hannah is the girl who Daniel was convicted of killing. I wouldn’t have known that but we saw him in Hannah’s house earlier in the episode. He was watching his mother arranging knick-knacks.

The dead guy is George. The guy who found him is Trey. They’re friends, and they both know Daniel, and they both know something about Hannah’s death. If I remember right, they were there when whatever happened happened, and I think they both testified. I’d have to rewatch to be sure.

I can’t believe a smart crowd like this isn’t on about this show more. I think it’s brilliant. And this year was extra.

It’s definitely not for everyone, but surely there’s a core crowd of Dopers that are fans?

It was a great season. The last two episodes were especially good. That scene with Tawny and Ted Jr. where their marriage finally crumbled was just gut-wrenching.

I also really liked the earlier episode where Daniel visits Atlanta and meets the ladies at the museum.

After watching the first season, I had forgotten all about this show until a few weeks ago. It was totally off my radar when it started up again this summer. Have only two episodes to go to finish Season Two… its getting good!!
