Prison Break: Episode 1.1

Prison Break 8-10PM tonight on FOX. (7PM central)

This has to be aimed at the *24 *audience, and my local paper said the 2 hour premier is as action packed and exciting as the first few episodes of *24 *when in it’s first series. I’m going to give it a chance, especially since it’s in HD on FOX.

Anyone else interestd?

I’ll be watching. From what I can tell, a guy robs a bank to get into prison, so he can bust someone else out. I think it mgiht be his brother. Have to wait and see for the full nitty gritty.

It’s definitely his brother - that point has been revealed in the commercials promoting the show. The New York Times reviewer liked it. I may give it a try tonight.

I plan on giving it a shot, but I’ll probably forget, like I usually do.

Ah, television. How I’ve missed you.

I’ll be checking it out. Mostly because there’s nothing else on. It is getting fairly good reviews too. It’s certainly in the 24 mold, though I hear it’s even more preposterous (if that’s possible). I may find that my ability to suspend the prerequisite disbelief isn’t up to the task, especially after four seasons of Jack Bauer’s shenanigans.

Yes, and the gimick is that the brother who “breaks in” to prison worked for the construction firm that renovated the prison. Ergo, he knows how to “break out”.

The review in my local paper said there were tons of plot holes, but that it was great action. Sounds a lot like 24.

Hey, it’s fantasy TV. If I can live live all the plot holes in 24, I can live a few here.

I’m planning on watching, too. And if it’s really bad I’ll still be able to enjoy this thread tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up…meant to see the show but thought it was on a cable channel and thought it was starting next week. Is it true they filmed it at the old Joliet, Illinois penitentiary?

I’ll watch too. I’ve been catching up on Oz via NetFlix, and Prison Break has a sort of Oz look to it.

Yes, they did.

*Oz had some great actors (two of whom showed up in Rescue Me). It was a bit hokey how someone seemed to die every week, but overall it was pretty damn good. I’m sure Prison Break will take some of the juicier aspects of *Oz *and replay them-- gangs, drugs, corruption, sex…

*Beacher and O’Reilly, although Beacher isn’t a regular anymore.

I am very eager to see this show. Dominic Purcell, the great-looking guy from John Doe, is in it. For me, he’s one of those “I’d pay to see him read the phone book” actors.

At 8 o’clock? Somehow I can’t see it holding a candle to the wonderful world of Oz, what with the weekly full frontal nudity (that reminds me, I must check out Rescue Me if O’Reilly aka Dean Winters is on), close up drug ingestion and rape/murder/heroin-addled-rendition-of-“I’ve Got it Bad and That Ain’t Good.”

I think it’s regular time will be 9:00 (24’s spot) and is only at 8:00 for the 2 hr premier. Nonetheless, this is network TV, not cable nor remotely Premium cable, so I don’t expect to see an exact copy of Oz. Still, they can use the same type of material, just have stuff happen off camera. No one would expect it to be as graphic as *Oz *and that is certainly not what I menat.

Ryan O’Reilly plays Tom Gavin’s FBI brother in Rescue Me. He’s not part of the fire crew, so his role is a bit less, but he’s certainly on every week.

OK, 30 minutes in and I’m already confused. The brother’s on Death Row in Illinois. Slight problem. Illinois doesn’t have anyone on Death Row anymore. Now I guess he could’ve been tried, convicted and sentenced in the interim, but it seems unlikely that he’d go from trial to exhausting all appeals in barely two years. And it can’t be a federal death penalty, because the prison is a state facility. Federal prisoners wouldn’t be housed there.

And DB Cooper only got away with $200,000, not 1.5 million.

There’s your problem, you’re letting “facts” get in the way of things.

The premise is just ridiculous, but I may keep watching 'cause this boy is beautiful. If this were Oz, Adebisi would have had his ass in the first 20 minutes.

Speaking of Adebisi…

Is he the “mysterious Black man” that we’ll see on *Lost *Season II?

How many episodes is this thing slated for? Because I can stick around for the breakout plot, but I’m finding all the filler (eveything else) to be pretty boring.

Six, ten, maybe even twelve episodes at a stretch, but sure as hell not a full season.
