Recyling gone too far

This is just… astounding. Glad I don’t work in that factory.

I’m glad I don’t buy condoms in Vietnam.
How do you get that many of them? I know sewage treatment plants get a lot of them, but I can’t imagine it’s anywhere near that many. And it seems so labor intensive (cleaning, adding lube, rolling, packaging, selling etc) that they’d have to sell them for more than you’d pay to just buy new ones.

Police said the bags weighed more than 360 kilograms (794 lbs), equivalent to 345,000 condoms, according to VTV.

I’m finding myself just the slightest bit fascinated by this part, and – disturbingly – wondering if they weighed them before and after cleaning.

I just wanted to say that this is about the most grossed-out I have been since 2 Girls 1 Cup.

The owner of the warehouse said they had received a “monthly input of used condoms from an unknown person,” state newspaper Tuoi Tre reported.

Just take that statement at face value.

I guess I should stay away from Trojan Certified Refurbished, right?

Meanwhile, over at the Hanoi Depends Factory…

I recently acquired an early edition of the feminist health guide “Our Bodies, Ourselves”, from the early 1970s. That book did indeed have instructions on how to wash and reuse condoms!

I understand that older condoms were much thicker than modern ones, and actually designed for reuse.

ewwwww

And there’s always this, too.

345k used rubber? I’d call that a GoodYear.

And quite possibly a Firestone, as well.

Don’t get me started on Kumho….

My Jeep has Dick Cepek

It doesn’t sound any better if we can just call it 2,395 Gross used rubbers, does it?

This might be the future. Living on a scorching planet, eating bugs, and using recycled condoms if we can afford them.

This episode of the NHK series Cool Japan includes a segment on still-prototype recyclable adult diapers. Recyclable as in “can be made into more adult diapers.” Kind of fascinating.

I don’t know if I could used recycled condoms, but one day I may have to accept recycled adult diapers. It’s all about the Spaceship Earth Economy.

I recall reading about NYC children (in the days before sewage treatment) diving into the river to retrieve flushed condoms for rolling and resale.

But I too am having trouble reconciling the volume and economics here.

I find that all of my comments and observations are not acceptable for polite company.

And my brain keeps thinking up more and more…

Special recycle bins?

Sorry about last night. I was tired.
