Went to see the film RED yesterday - pretty full theater for such an early screening.
I intentionally did not read a single review and figured this would be my guilty pleasure - just go see it with no expectations whatsoever. Figured it was an interesting cast - Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Mary Louise Parker and others.
The film was fun, funny, had some great action scenes and a real plot. We liked it a lot and, overhearing some people on the way out, others seemed to be also surprised how much they liked the film.
You don’t necessarily have to dash to a theater to see this on the big screen, but when it comes to DVD or your local premium channel, make sure to catch it!
My wife and I liked it too. Some great lines and a feel good movie for old farts like me. As DMark says, not need to rush to see it on the big screen, but still a nice diversion.
The hubby and I saw this last weekend. It was exactly what I’d been hoping for: plenty of action, plenty of snappy dialogue/wit, enough pathos to keep it from falling straight into ‘fluff’ territory. The whole cast was excellent!
I agree, Southern Yankee. Since they had the side story about how Helen Mirren shot her lover in the chest. I thought at first Morgan Freeman was shot by her, in the chest, such that he would survive.
Finally went to see this film tonight and loved it. My wife even loved it, and she’s an avowed opponent of action flicks (I think she’d watch anything with Helen Mirren). Mirren on the heavy gun was a knockout. Lots of fun for all.
this is definitely the action movie for people that don’t like action movies. fortunately, if you like action movies, you’ll probably enjoy this one also. it’s no “Expendables”. It’s not even “Predator”. it’s “scott pilgrim” for people who don’t play video games. i liked it, probably more than i’d like to admit.
pretty clever, doesn’t take itself too seriously, and as everyone before me has said - “fun”.
It’s so over the top that one can’t possibly take it seriously. The huge detonations must have been fun for the effects guys, as they were completely silly. The cast, of course, is a dream team.
hee. was that a 50 cal she was sporting in the parking garage? loved it loved it loved it. haven’t laughed out loud like that at a movie in AGES… an over the top plot and a dream team of actors indeed. well done!
