Red Wedding in GOT

I rewatched this the other night. What’s the the thought about Brynden Tully leaving to take a bathroom break right before the killings start? Just lucky or did he have advanced warning?

Clarify: TV only or books?

There is very little evidence for anything besides “lucky,” certainly zero evidence for collusion with the Freys. And I doubt he just pranced straight out of there without violence.

I only watched the TV show.

For some reason, I thought that they waited until he was headed to his marriage bed before beginning the excitement. Maybe I’m misremembering.

Edmure was the guy who got married , not Brynden. And they did wait for Edmure to leave before starting the killing

I meant: is this the kind of thread where you want to know how GRRM intended it to be interpreted, or are we pretending that the books don’t exist for the purpose of this thread? Some people around here take that very seriously.

And if you’re asking whether he was complicit, I’d say the chance is 0%. If you’re asking whether he felt something was “off” and decided to be prudent, that is possible. He’s not the “honor before sense” type that his Stark in-laws are.

Edmure was probably locked in the bedroom for awhile.

Whoops. Brynden is kind of a loner, maybe he’s not a guy for big parties.

Maybe Brynden is such a badass that Roose and the Freys waited until he left before starting the slaughter for fear of him stopping them.

of course how did they know he was going to leave for a bathroom break?

His prostate issues are well known.

They didn’t but once he was gone it was all knives in the amniotic fluid!
