I doubt if real cowboys could afford to live on the West Coast. They are probably “drugstore outlaws”, an entirely different breed of good-ole-boy wannabes.
“Agro-American”
Sofa King, you just made my morning, except for the headache I have from laughing so hard.
This whole thread explains quite a few of my former neighbors.
Southerner checking in here, and I can tell you, for a fact, that I saw just as many folks in northern New Jersey that met my definition of “redneck” as I’ve ever seen in the wilds of Virginia. The worst part was that they were rednecks with that horrible accent. Damn, how I hate to hear those northern people talk.

As any good Redneck knows, the Confederate battle flag or “Southern Cross” is not known as the “Stars and Bars.”
Here is the true Stars and Bars flag. You never see that one in pickup truck windows.
Never been to Michigan, have you?
I think the primary qualities needed to be a redneck, IMHO, are: [list]
[li]Stupidity (not ignorance - there is a difference)[/li][li]Narrow-minded bigoted behavior and beliefs[/li][li]Abuser of children, animals and/or spouse (generally)[/li][li]Extremely conservative in a scary way[/li]
Just my .02 - obviously our posters here who think they are rednecks subscribe to a different definition than mine!
Agreed. I lived in Harpers Ferry for a while. My wife was an extension agent in Frederick. It is a very nice place. I heard that, at one point, it was a big Klan area. Maybe that’s where it got that nickname. Both Frederick and Leesburg, and for that matter, Harpers Ferry, are rapidly becoming DC suburbs.
Ever been to that Italian place in Lovettesville? It was great. And in the middle of nowhere. I’m thinking FBI witness protection program.
I see these periodically. I guess folks do it to show their “southern pride” to others, while not being erroneously thought of as someone who wears bedsheets on the weekend. I know one fella, a Civil War re-enactor who has one on his car that he uses to tow his cannon(!). He is a frequent commentator on “History of the Gun” on History Channel.
I think everyone should have a cannon in their garage.
“KID ROCK!”
Who is from Detroit of all places!
You should try the Lightfoot in Leesburg. Good food!
But the best place, by far, in Virginia is the Inn at Little Washington. Big city prices, but food the angels could have made, and would swoon to eat. Better than anyplace south of New York City, and for my money better than any place on the East Coast.
You haven’t lived until you’ve seen an entire artillery barrage go off just at sunset. My best friend does an occasional “cannon bash” as a fund raiser. Bring your hearing protection; those things are loud!
Out here in LA (Lower Arkansas), that’s breakfast.
This is what I think when someone says redneck. I sometimes encounter people who seem to take pride in being ingnorant… At least that’s the impression I get.
Very odd
