One problem with the “homer” press is that the press nowadays is not local. None of it. Nearly every TV station and daily newspaper have a website. So local journalists have to write for a national, even international, audience. And there’s no better way to completely lose your credibility in a non-biased audience like that than to look like a propaganda organ instead of a news organization.
I love when coaches and managers try to bully the press. Clearly a reporter tweeting that he saw a player from the Reds organization on a plane is why the Reds are playing so poorly. A Jackass.
I’m coming to this as a non-fan. I’d argue that information that you don’t want reported shouldn’t be given out. And if it’s the type of information anyone could figure out, telling some people not to report it is stupid, since someone else can.
Would you rather have spies from other teams rather than having it all out in the open?
