I have yet to see a Reeder thread in Great Debates where I didn’t want to respond with “Will you stop peddling this shit already, you putz?” Unfortunately, the rules for GD don’t allow for such flowery language, so I end up lurking for the most part and addressing the occasional interesting point or two.
Even so… how about we ban both december and Reeder, in a two-for-one bipartisan deal to improve the signal-to-noise ratio on the board? 
If we can manage to trap them in the same thread…
I think a certain amount of noise improves the signal. It doesn’t really work to extend the metaphor that way, so let’s switch:

We have december, who posts useless right wing OPs, and we have Reeder, who posts useless left wing OPs. There is Rush Limbaugh, a right wing blowhard who lies and blusters, and then there is Michael Moore, a left wing blowhard who lies and blusters. You have G. Gordon Liddy, a bald nutjob who rants from the right, and then you have James Carville, a bald nutjob who rants from the left. We had Jack Dean Tyler, a total fucking psycho who was into FOREskins, and then we had Seethruart, a total fucking psycho who was into BACK issues of Conspiracy Weekly.
If we were to get rid of Reeder, why, the board would be unbalanced. The very fabric of space and time would be torn asunder. The offices of the Chicago Reader would implode into a black hole, and the resulting gravity well would throw off the Earth’s center of gravity, disrupt its rotation and its orbit and hurl it into the Sun, annihilating the human race. That is Reeder’s place; his banning would destroy us all.
So, RickJay, you’re saying that december and Reeder are maintaining the peace through MAD – mutual assured destruction? Or that they are mad? I’d say they’re both 1920s style death rays.

Actually, Reeder doesn’t embarrass me at all. I feel no need to be embrrassed over things done by someone over whom i have absolutely no control. While i share many of Reeder’s political viewpoints, i think the way that he gets those viewpoints across on this board are often unproductive and simplistic. But the idea that all leftists/liberals etc. should feel somehow diminished by a single unreflective poster is asinine.
In the same spirit, i see no reason for conservatives to be embarrassed by december’s dribbling idiocy, except when they apparently feel the need to start defending the idiocy, as milroyj and a few other morons do in this thread.
Guin, you do yourself and other liberals/leftists no service by starting a thread like this and effectively conceding to Reeder the right to determine how liberals/leftists are perceived on this message board.
For this to be MAD, there would need to be an arraingement through which Reeder agreed not to post so long as December didn’t and December agreed not to post so long as Reeder didn’t. To continue the analogy, the current situation isn’t one of deterence but rather nuclear winter (as both are posting.)
IMO, both post a lot of inteligent stuff, and a lot of BS. Granted that is also my opinion of damn near everyone else (with special emphasis on the BS in my own case.)

My reason for posting is just to get the message out to people who care and I feel that GD is the best place for that.
I do hope you have noticed that most of my post have really turned into debates.
But I do have to admit my last one, the GWB.com, was a bit weak.
I promise to try harder.
As for it just being recently that I have found my voice…it’s just been recently that my president has decided that our brave troops are cannon fodder for his warmongering.

If you open a Reeder / December GD thread you basically know what to expect, if you don’t enjoy arguments too slanted to stand on their own you likely wont appreciate the thread. As a devout agnostic I find their respective viewpoints interesting, to the extent that I don’t find them tedious, as an experiment in sorta “neuroanthropology.” What motivates otherwise intelligent people of good nature to perceive the polychrome of experience in such garish black and white. And perhaps more importantly how do such perspectives (or lack there of) make us vulnerable to those with much greater appetites for power and self aggrandizement than do I.
That being said, just the other day I posted a GQ thread asking for help restoring bookmarks and saved e-mails trashed in an AOL meltdown. Not only did Reeder help me but he did so with incredibly speed. My brother and sister in law are flying to China next month to adopt a baby girl and restoring the lost data saved them a great deal of anxiety in maintaining that process. This is a good opportunity for me to again thank Reeder for his help, I’m glad you were there Reeder.
Maybe it’s a sort of witnessing…
