I’m in the process of refinishing my kitchen cabinets. They have a veneer on them now so it’s not as easy as sanding and then re-staining. I used a medium-grit sand paper to roughen up the veneer and then put down a good quality oil-based primer. From there I’m adding an oil-based white top coat. My problem is, no matter how lightly I paint the final coat I still get stuck with brush strokes. And yes…it’s a good quality paint brush.
So…my question is…has anyone used one of those Wagner Power Spray painters? I know they would most likely work great for restaining a deck or something but do you think it would well in this particular application?
Good question, I’m going to be doing the exact same thing in the near future in my kitchen. I too would be interested in hearing the responses to this question.
Many paint stores allow you to rent good equipment.
Look for Graco airless sprayers. Wagner also makes commercial grade units which are very nice.
Also, you might be interested in HVLP paint sprayers. They seem to be a little more forgiving for the first time sprayer.
Keep a brush on hand for runs. Makes sure it’s a little bit wet with what you’re using.
And be sure you mask off or cover what you don’t want oiled. Spraying oil tends to fill the air with paint vapor. Which is why you should also use a respirator.
