"Refresh" button

This question probably belongs in GQ, but it is a pretty trivial question. Does the REFRESH button in Netscape (located in the VIEW menu) actually do anything? At first I thought it was akin to hitting RELOAD, but it doesn’t visibly do anything. Any ideas?

If a page has an update while I am on it, then I hit Refresh, it works like a charm. Is it not doing anything for you?

You can feel free to call me Mr. Tied for 26th place on the favorite poster’s list.

And for an even better experience, try hitting the Refresh button while holding down the “Shift” key.

Quite a few ISPs use “proxy servers,” by using “Refresh + Shift” you bypass what they’ve got cached and go directly to the most recent version of the page.

Hmmm…it doesn’t seem to do anything for me, either. I don’t think Squee’s talking about the reload BUTTON, but the “refresh” OPTION under the “view” menu. Of course the reload button just reloads the page. But the refresh option seems to just make it blink…it can’t be loading it again, it happens too quickly.

A mystery for the ages, to be sure. Or at least a mystery until the next poster comes along and makes me look completely clueless.

<WAG>Try it if a page was interrupted, or if an image didn’t load all the way, it might fix it. </WAG>

It might also be for dynamically changing pages (rare though they are) that for some reason haven’t dynamically changed. Or something.

And that, Guano, was a dynamic answer. Sorta.

If your screen bleeps up, you can use refresh to restore it. Same with display properties. Weird that ‘refresh’ doesn’t appear in the Netscape assistance index, eh? This version 4.7

Refresh doesn’t effect web content but is a display refresh.
