Refrigerator Water Filter Sudden Death

So, the water filter was freely dispensing water when I left for work this morning and now it isn’t. No final trickle, just nothing at all. Fridge otherwise appears to be working normally and the tubes running from the fridge to the wall and presumably at some point to the water supply are all intact, no evidence of spillage.

Any ideas what’s going on:confused:

Do you hear the solenoid click when you try to dispense water?

A bit off topic but thank god our frig didn’t stop dispensing water when the filter was due for replacement. Those filters are something like $30-$35. Our city water is great and needs no filtering. Come to think of it, I really wouldn’t care if it did stop dispensing. I almost never use the feature. Water comes out of the spigot much faster. Same for damn ice cube dispenser. It faster to open the freezer and grab what I need out of the tray. I could die of thirst trying to get a glass of water with a few cubes in it.

filters time out on some models. does yours shut off the water valve when that happens?

No sound at all is heard. We replace the filter regularly, and have never had this problem when we have neglected to do so in the past, so I doubt that is the issue. We are going to try replacing the filter and if that doesn’t work probably call in the professionals. We feel Chicago city water is quite unpalatable.

Sounds like a bad switch/valve/interlock to me, not a clogged filter.

My old fridge used to have a blue plastic plug-thingy that you’d put in the filter socket if you didn’t have a filter- if you have one of those, you could rule out the filter without even having to buy a new one to test it.

I think my new fridge will just disengage the filter if I take it out, and let the water flow unfiltered. Same thing for testing purposes.
