Region free DVD players in US

I’m looking to get a region free DVD player and am wondering if anyone has one, what type, and where to get it.

I mostly want to watch soccer videos that are only produced for the Euro market.

Thanks

I just bought a code-free DVD for the fiancee. I got the Classic DVD-103 (I think that is the model) through ZoneFreeDVD.com. It was on sale (I got it for under $200), maybe because they were clearing out their inventory. Seems to work just fine and while I didn’t have any trouble with the company, that’s just my experience. YMMV.

I got mine last May from International Electronics. They have a number of options under $200; I bought their no-name blow-out special at the time (not the same as the one they currently advertise) and have been very happy with it.

I got a Philips 727 from Overseas Best Buy in Skokie Illinois, bought over the 'Net, and ground-shipped to Canada by UPS. US $169.99, plus $30 shipping to the Great White North.

No complaints, great machine, plays well with my new Sony Wega flatscreen.

Overseas Best Buy’s Region-Free DVD Players

Why would you buy a region free DVD player when there are many DVD players which can be easily converted to a region free one? I bought my Mom a Norcent DP300 for $50 + S&H off of Amazon plus a $10 rebate and then simply changed the region to region free through the remote with the instruction from VCD help. I did the same thing with my $130 Zenith 2201 which I bought 2 years ago. Better to have one you know how to alter yourself so you’re protected if you ever run into RCE.

I can’t say how any of them would handle the PAL conversion though, or is France SECAM. That’ll be your main problem and it’ll depend on the player.

I bought a JVC XV-S500BK that’s code free and plays PAL discs. It has enabled me to buy R2 & R4 discs. Cost about $225 w/shipping a year ago.
