I don’t care what anybody says. My Members Only jacket was a great looking article of clothing, in addition to being supremely practical.
I was driving by the university today when I saw a woman (looked like a student) in neon-orange pumps, capri length stretch pants and an oversized T-shirt (something neon on it).
At first, I thought “how did you get lost for two decades?” but then… “That might work with black pumps instead of the orange ones.”
Shoulder pads. Maybe not the “I was a linebacker in a former life” but shoulder pads didn’t suck…neither did the bodysuits of the early 90s.
and tremorviolet, I work out in lycra shorts - my gym is pretty much split between those and yoga pants, but then, it’s not a fashion plate, pick-up-joint gym.
High cut gym shorts on the girls- those kind that had a little notch on the outer inseam that showed just an extra half inch of leg there.
Big bell bottom jeans.
Actually, since we’re allowed to be nostalgic for the eighties now, Members Only jackets have a certain coolness to them. Izod seems to be gaining in popularity too, but only if it’s got the little alligator on the pocket.
JuanitaTech - Then it’s settled. We combine our wardrobes and begin planning to take over the world. Polyester’s back, baby!
AHH the fun eighties. I LOVED the clothes in the eighties. I fancied myself a “new-waver” with the multi-colored hair, lots of bracelets, one really long earring, capezios with scrunchy socks, and the weird hats. Clothes are so boring nowadays. When I look at old pictures I think I looked damned cute!
I’m so with Life on Wry - I used to have Candies in dozens of colors…
I realize it’s not really safe wearing them around boys over the age of 12, but I have always liked the way some women look in tube tops…
heh. What’s a Members Only jacket ?
I too, like the colored hair. Bright blue, or green. That was fun.
Oh, and black mini-skirts with black tights * - Is it called ‘tights’ in English? I mean the thick ones, that look like they’re knitted? -* and black boots.
I used to wear, and now miss: Safari “suits”- that is Khaki pants & a safari jacket out of matching material (always cotton!)
Liked, went out, but now are back- Clarkes “desert Boots”.
Still wear, no matter what other dudes think- fedoras.
Used to think was HOT on girls (and I wish they’d come back)- satin jeans. Altho tremorviolent’s “lycra shorts” have almost the same effect.
Hope they stay gone- “polyester leisure suits” or polyester pants.
Wait a second - are capri pants not in style? Because I wear them all the time (I have khaki ones on right now) and so do my friends and my mom. Guess SE Kansas didn’t get the memo that they weren’t cool anymore!
Members Only jacket. I had no idea they sold them at Hot Topic. Guess they really are coming back in style.
For the record - this is the classic style, but it’s not the only one. I had a supremely eighties purple wool Members Only jacket come into the store last winter. It had more of a military style to it, but still had the little Members Only patch on it. Very cool.
I think scrubs are sexy (on women).
And flannel nighties.
Kansas never gets any of the “memos”.
Oh yeah, DrDeth? What do you know? Kansas is cool! Kansas is hip! Kansas is…well for crying out loud, look at our neighboring states! See what we have to live with? I mean, come on, Nebraska?
Okay, okay, you’re totally right. But at least we have the world’s biggest ball of twine!
Bell bottom trousers and a tie dyed tee shirt.
<Waggles bottom as he walks out>
Thanks, look!ninjas ‘Members Only’ is the brand name, huh.
I wear them everyday and I sure don’t FEEL sexy .
and I still wear black skirts with tights and Doc Martens.
[nit picking] Orange isn’t a primary color [/picked]
I miss my “hippie” clothes from my college days (I graduated in 1998). While in college, I used to design and make all my own clothes, and the best way to describe them is “hippie,” I guess you could say. Long flowing skirts and dresses, cute colorful calico fabrics, very feminine designs. Not to mention they were so comfortable. After I graduated and started living in the real world, I realized I couldn’t wear my hippie clothes anymore because I would look weird. So now all my beautiful creations are gathering dust in the back of my closet.
