What sort of violence is he calling for by saying: its not too late but its going to take violence to change that
And how is that suppressing free speech? Is he preventing even a single person from speaking in Arabic or practicing Islam?
What he is doing may be reprehensible but I don’t think there is a close enough nexus to the actual suppression of speech to call it suppression of free speech.
So are Iowa campuses asking this question of all new hires? Or is it just another piece of grandstanding proposed piece of legislation that will never get passed?
Colleges are liberal, almost by design. Any place where liberal arts are taught, there is going to be liberalism, its sort of where the term liberalism as we use the term in America comes from. There is no conservative analogue to the liberal arts, the best the conservative side can really offer is criticism where liberalism goes too far. one of the places where liberalism goes to far is when they attempt to stifle conservative views.
There are basically two types of conservative views that liberals try to stifle. The first is vitriol and hate speech that practically no one would agree with and doesn’t really need to be stifled any more than the Fred Phelps group needs to be stifled. They are annoying and a reminder that these sort of people exist. The second type is controversial where reasonable arguments can be made for both sides, and liberals are trying to keep the other side of the controversy silent. You don’t like the pro-life stance, that’s fine. Shutting out conservative voices and welcoming liberal voices turns colleges from a place of learning to a place of indoctrination.
What is the harm in letting these conservatives speak?
What happened in UNC? I haven’t heard about this.
Damuri, at this point, you’ve asked so many questions that I find trifling and “jump like a monkey” questions that I’m not convinced you’re holding up your end of the conversation. When you think of asking me a question, understand my default response is going to be to deny your request. If you’d like to change that default request, scolding me and telling me what I must do in great debates will prove ineffective. Demonstrating that you’ve read the thread and done a cursory amount of legwork yourself will prove effective.
