Do you know of a site where I can figure out relationsships within a family? i.e. A son of my grandmother’s sister. A cousin to my parent, but what to me, 2d cousin? What is my relation to his children? Their’s to mine? What does once, or twice removed indicate? How about my mother’s sister’s husband, my uncle or uncle-in-law? I find it very confusing!
“Removed” indicates the number of generations a person is from a relationship. Your grandmother’s sister’s son is your parent’s first cousin. He is therefore your first cousin once removed. He is your child’s first cousin twice removed, and your grandchild’s first cousin thrice removed, etc.
His child is your second cousin, and your child’s (as well as your parent’s) second cousin once removed. His child’s child will be your child’s third cousin.
