I’ll pray for you.

God doesn’t have enemies. I’ve never understood why people make up perfectly good deities and then drag them down to our level. Probably related though.
Religion on the other hand, often does have enemies. But that’s to be expected when people harness belief to generate power they can then use against their fellow man.
I Agreed with much Christoher Hitchens had to say and disagreed with much. One thing I found to be one of my biggest points of disagreement is how he lumped all religions into one pit. and he routinely mixes doctrines of many religions maybe as a joke but he certainly tries very hard to make it seem like the faithful are idiots.
There are many different sects of Christianity, Catholics, Mormons, Protestants are Christians, Yeah there beliefs and doctrines are different. Many Christians do not even consider Christian denominations out side their own to be valid. Then there’s the many other religions and faiths around the world that can be vastly different yet Hitchens seems to constantly try to lump them all together. Before you mock faith you should know the differences. Theres a big deference between Zues and Christ
There are many faiths but I believe only one is inspired by God. The others are illusions set forth by the enemy. In The Bible there’s a battle between Mosses and the Pharaoh. The pharaoh had sorcerers and wielded dark power mosses called upon the power of God and they did battle. Even after losing to the God of Moses and seeing Gods power after plagues and sickness decimated his land pharaoh still refused to obey, what i find fascinating about this is that its not mentioned that Pharaoh didn’t believe in God on the contrary he believed he just didn’t care and felt he was better similar to Satan.
For many years i wondered about this how could somebody witness Gods awsome power and still refuse to obey and still think they where better. Well theres another passage in the Bible I some how must have missed it Says God Hardened pharohs heart… So thats why Pharoh wouldn’t obey, and why does he do this In order to demonstrate His power, and in order that His name might be proclaimed throughout the entire earth.” Exodus 9;16.
I dont have anything personal against Hitches or other proclaimed atheist but they most certainly seem to have something against God. and the faithful just look at the ridiculous titles they give there books. Atheist go after the righteous like jealous bullies. They slander the faithful and try to confuse the word Christ loving God living Christians are not the same a rebellious Muslims. Like the Pharoh other religions and faiths have power but its a dark evil power. I find that alot of the faithful people atheist come into contact with are from some Misguided sect or church of Christianity or some heathen faith.
In my opinion Atheist hearts are either hardened by God they are angry at God or they are scared of having faith. So i suggest before one mocks faith and swear their allegiance to the Devil they get the facts. But i will say if the church is not founded on Christ its the wrong one. Secondly if the church has doctrines that contradict the Bible its the wrong one, The Bible never says anywhere that one is to worship dead saints or that People become saints, and Mary could not have possibly been a virgin forever she had a husband and Jesus had siblings.
Also for all you die hard atheist God doesn’t send people to hell but only the righteous can enter the heavenly kingdom so there’s only one place left for an unrepentant soul God doesn’t condemn you, you condemn your self. God wants to save you, and hes made a way through Jesus Christ, for minor things a lamb sacrifice would do but for the whole world for a human soul we needed something bigger and better.
Its better on the inside. And think about how much better our world would be if everyone followed the teachings of Jesus Christ instead of hating him so much. many atheist believe they are in total control of their lives they are the masters of their domain. well that’s impossible if your not being guided and protected by God then your just a puppet for the evil one. That why Jesus refers to us as lambs and he is our Sheppard.
There are evil unholy heretical faiths and religions. Hitchens constantly threw the truly righteous into these groups. He was a man who was either demonically influenced and hated God because of that or a man who had his heart hardened or maybe he was scared. How could a man in his position after making a living gaining millions of followers off of his Bashing of God proclaim he has faith so maybe he sold out his soul for the dollar That says " In God We Trust".
I dont judge atheist, saying they will go to hell if they remain unrepentant is not a judgment its a fact. And for all those Atheist out there Who dont believe for what ever reason Give God a chance try him before you knock him and if you tried Him before try again.
Bonematter, the reason Hitchens threw all religions into the same box is that they all claim unsupported supernatural influence on the physical world.
The beginning of your argument is “I believe”. You use the Bible as evidence to support your assertions.
Ultimately you sound the same, and make similar assertions, as a Hindu zealot, a Cargo Cultist or a fundamentalist Muslim imam. Aside from the details, there is very little difference between what they assert, to someone who is outside your belief system.
You fundamentally misunderstand most atheists. I am not I afraid to have faith. Neither am I angry at an entity that I think there is zero evidence to support.
-Hitchens was smart, but he was just plain MEAN. There is no reason to be mean. In the history of the world, many great men have had ideas that were a bit strange, or totally wrong. Tolostoy was nuts. Carter was a terrible president. Bob Hope wasn’t very funny. But they all spent time and money to make other people (Russian Serfs, Habitat for Humanity, US Army) feel better. Who did Hitchens make feel better? Mostly himself.
-Every sinlge positive euology says the same thing “A pundit, a briliant mind, a razor wit” nobody said “One who loved his fellow men.” He was not only an atheist, he was a misanthrope who denied all that was good in his fellow man. All that honor, charity, and kindess in man was mocked by him as “a fear of a jealous god”. He was, quite frankly, evil.
-I’m agnostic by the way.
Because they are all fundamentally the same in being baseless nonsense.
“Rebellious” Muslims?
Which would amusingly put them one up on Christianity, which doesn’t have any supernatural power at all.
Swearing your allegiance to the Devil would require faith, since the Devil is just as much a myth as your God.
Die Hard atheists shoot God in the head, then drive out of Heaven in God’s hijacked limo, smashing their way through the Pearly Gates and leaving Heaven on fire with occasional explosions behind them as they run Saint Peter over.
That’s the problem with atheists. They are materialists. All they want out of life is a goddamn car.
Can you imagine what that limo would be like though?
There’s a “Ho, ho, ho, now I have a something or other” joke here somewhere, but I just can’t find it.
Not just A car. A panty-dropper & a pad.
I think the OP is being dramatic. Of course, I may feel this way because I couldn’t stand Hitchens. I hate when people would lump Dawkins in with an airbag like Hitchens.
OTOH, tone-deafness, along with doucheness, is a hallmark of some denominations in Christian religion.
The is the crux of why atheists think that some Christians are douches. Here we see a Christian who loves some god while, at the same time, hopes that this god will grant Hitchens mercy and not throw him into eternal torment just for not believing in the god. This type of god is a asshole. Yet, many Christians continue to love this god and wonders why an atheist would think he/she is a douche.
However, there are some Christians who don’t believe in hell. An atheist may find them to be misguided, even delusional, but not a douche. Or maybe someone worships a god like the old days. They don’t pretend this god is loving. They don’t condescend to non-believers. They know their god is an asshole and they want to make sure their friends won’t garner the wrath of the asshole god.
Actually, Hitchens didn’t say Carter was a terrible president. He said Carter was a fatuous hypocrite who encouraged Saddam Hussein to start the bloodiest war in Iraq’s history, out of a fit of pique. As a Marxist, he believed that most suffering was political in origin, and gave money to political organizations with whom he agreed, including the leading Kurdish Independence party, which he’d supported from the 1970s. He opposed dictators everywhere. He was also mean, and “a real shit,” in the words of one of his friends. Not mean like Mother Teresa, though. Not “you have stage II cancer? Here’s an Excedrin and a pallet to die on” mean.
This, of course, is another reason why atheists think some Christians are douches. (Unless you were just poking Der Trihs.)
That was clearly a very witty comment.
Materialism != materialism. Get it?
Fucking hell, man. It was a joke. Don’t feed the stereotype of atheists being humorless. It was a joke.
I plead guilty of only being partially whooshed. The first half of my post was the whooshed me. The parentheses part was me getting it.
(Poe’s law and all that.)
Michael Shermer is not a stereotype, and he takes offense at that.
You wound me, sir! Yea verily, to my very soul and essence! Wounded, I say!
I say.
He’s a regular Bob Hope!
