Religious zealots annoy me to no end. (parody pitting for tthis thread ):

Before you flame, please make sure you’re part of those who annoy me. Odds are you are not
• If you don’t know or think there is no such a thing as a higher power, that’s cool.
• If you think atheism is a heathenistic tradition, that’s cool.
• If you think atheists have propagated a staggering number of atrocities, that’s cool (hell, it’s true).
• If you think atheistic people are arrogant for not needing the crutch of religion, while you do, that’s cool.

To those who know there is/are higher power(s):

Man has always looked upon this infinitely awe-inspiring universe and felt humbled, and rightfully so. What kind of an arrogant fool dares to say that in this entire universe, only one microscopic speck was good enough for someone to create life on? It boggles the mind. You don’t know SHIT so STFU.

To those who say atheism is nothing but the ignorance of the people:**

A world without atheism was never in the cards for us. Can anyone deny that logic is endemic to our species? It is our nature to try to understand and interpret the origins of life, the universe and everything. Religion is an assuagement of our senses and a pen to write down our desire to belong to something bigger, nothing more. Religion is cool and pretty because it reflects the possibility that someone else can fix things for us and lets us escape accountability.

To those who bash atheism and other forms of not-believing-what-I-believe as a Bad Thing ™ for mankind:

Successful religions were the ones that divided countless tribes, triggered countless bloody battles and endless vendettas, helped civilizations fall apart and likely helped increase the human population by far larger numbers than the earth can support because of procreational sex-only dogmas. The effects of encouraging people to have more kids and without regards to the consequences is just devastating. Even atheists believe that wisdom is valuable,. Stop being such hypocrites and only looking at the flipside. Do the goddamned math!

To those who claim atheism = malicious brainwashing

Some atheists are bad, some are not. Same as everybody else. Atheism is not the frigging Borg assimilating you and running logic code in your brain 24/7* and obliterating your soul. That’s why atheistic people are committing moralistic acts all the time. That’s why most atheists don’t even bother to tell people they are. Because it doesn’t matter. Ultimately, nobody is forced not to believe. (social pressure and constraints exist regardless of atheism. From “Don’t fart loudly” to “Don’t rape dead bodies in the municipal park in broad daylight”). Stop fucking making it into a scapegoat for the ugly side of human nature. You freaking believe it’s deity-made! Think about it for a while and get your heads out of your asses.

*Now some atheists are bad because they attempt to do precisely that, or, failing that objective, repressing dissent, advocating hatred, oppressing people, etc. but even those only succeed in retaining the loyalty/support of a fraction of their cohorts.

I’m not a dickhead nor I do not claim to have The Answers but Goddamnit, neither do you, you delusional pricks!

I was looking at the matching thread, and realized, Atheists don’t annoy me all that much.

Religious zealots do, though.

Especially logical, scientific religious zealots. They piss me off.

However, I forgive them.

I don’t try to change anyone’s mind, because I don’t think it’s your mind that matters.

If the love of Christ is more powerful than anything else, perhaps those of us who believe in Him should try using that, instead of argument.

That’s not true. First of all unicorns and dragons are animals. Not spiritual entities. We haven’t disproven the realm of the spirtual because its outside the abilities of science to prove or to disprove.

Those people who do tend to believe in God have had often times hierophanies. Some of those might be “faking it on the floor of the pentacostal church in convulsions” but others are much different.

There is a very deep and yearning spiritual self in many people on earth, though not all. It is my experience that non spiritual people can’t understand what the spiritual ones are going on about. But its like being color blind, just because you can’t see red, doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

We haven’t disproven unicorns. Because they can turn invisible at will and teleport and travel through solid objects. They never sleep, are keenly aware of their surroundings in a 360° radius at all times and can make you forget. So we haven’t disproven them at all you see.

No it isn’t like that at all. Because our science shows red to be a part of the EM spectrum. It can be generated via pigments which are detectable and verifiable as red by optical sensing devices. We can split white light into a spectra using a prism and red shows up right where it ought to be. People see red. They are capable of performing double blind tests where they with very high degrees of accuracy can choose red out of line up of several different colors.

So no, it isn’t the same thing. Don’t you think about stuff before you type?

I find when people mock ‘religion,’ they are more often than not mocking Christianity. Religious beliefs and practices vary widely, but of course it’s all so cool on this board to lump religion into one big scapegoat of evil, especially Christianity (2nd place goes to Islam).
