Relish Trays

Hi all,

I’m in charge of the relish trays and clam dip/chips on Turkey Day. Standard fare is usually olives, pickles and stuffed celery (with Easy Cheese or Peanut Butter). Any new ideas along those lines? I won’t get away with not doing the stuffed celery but stuffing it with something new might be fun. What do you all do for relish trays?

Do you have a good deli where you could get a whole bunch of different kinds of olives?

Stuff the celery with pimento cheese.

Cream cheese covered in Pickapeppa Sauce.

Go for the more obscure cheeses and have sliced pepperoni on hand.

I think the traditional relish tray has two kinds of olives, sweet pickles, stuffed celery (or two different stuffed celeries) and deviled eggs.

My sister usually brings a beautiful veggie tray with various colored bell peppers as the cups that hold the veggies, and a hollowed out purple cabbage to hold the dip. All these items are surrounded by various lettuces and artfully placed veggie cuts that both hold the bell pep cups in place and make an overall attractive dish. She always includes something different such as jicima or carved radishes or olives.

It’s really just a veggie tray but also a bit of an artwork and very, very colorful.

(A little funny thing…I took one to my daughter’s 3rd grade school party and all the girls asked me for the ‘recipe’!- LOL)

Regarding that purple cabbage- they are usually very large around here but also purple all the way through so you can peel them down to the size you want pretty easily.

What, no carrots? Not even baby carrots?! No love for carrots in your family, eh?

Besides different varieties of olives, how about different stuffed olives? I’ve seen them stuffed with garlic cloves, blue cheese, and other yummy things.

Would the guests frown at those dill pickle/dried beef/cream cheese thingies? Spread cream cheese on a slice of dried beef. Place a dill pickle at one end, roll it up and slice it into little rounds. Or is that more of a horse-do-over?

Ditto the stuffed olives. The ones stuffed with sun-dried tomato are luscious.

What about nice grapes, or other fruits as well? A little something sweet to go with the savories?

Thanks all… great ideas! I did the variety of stuffed olives last year, and was going to do at least one or two of those.

Get some good salami and slice it thin. Roll around miniature sweet gurkins and hold in place with a toothpick.
