Remember music videos? Do they still exist?

Of course I know they still exist…I’m talking about shows that play music videos exclusively, like MuchMusic used to back in the day.

Is there a place online where I can watch random music videos back-to-back without individually loading up each one?

(I’m asking because I’ve got a TV monitor in my workout room at home that can be connected to my laptop’s wifi but isn’t connected to cable or satellite, and it would be nice to have something to watch while I’m on the treadmill & stuff.)

PS: Remember these awesome shows from your (well, my) childhood?

People post “playlists” on youtube like this.
When you click on the playlist, it automatically plays all the videos, one after another.
Some playlists are for a single artist, some are for a genre, some are just random collections of favorite videos. Mostly, they’re just people playing DJ.

I suggest you do searches on youtube for your favorite artists or songs. Usually about the second page of results you start getting playlists that include the artist or song you were looking for. Check to see if you see any that correspond to your tastes.

Yahoo has a video site that has video ‘channels’ to watch.

Thanks for your replies - I’ll check those out tonight. I’m hoping that having something to watch will motivate me to spend more time in that room…

There are also various playlists that contain dozens of videos on YouTube. Example, 11 hours of 80’s videos: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF9BC8B9C6CD04C15

I was going to say that while the purpose is basically the same (promotion of the band) the distribution has switched from TV to the internet. I notice very many bands post their new music vids on their websites as exclusives, or only send the link out to those on the email waiting list or facebook friends first.

 OMG I can’t wait to get home and check that out! (YouTube is blocked at my work.) THANK YOU!!

VH-1 Classic has “just videos” shows. Off the top of my head, they are called Rock Block, Metal Mania and Totally 80s.

VIVA has long shows consisting entirely of music videos, occasionally introduced by a VJ like on MuchMusic. I don’t know if they broadcast in your area or online, though.

There are at least two Country music video stations.

My local Fox channel has a sub channel called Cool TV that plays videos 24/7. Random ones usually, except during the evening they do specific genres like 80s or rock or hip hop.

I don’t know if cable or satellite gives you those digital subchannels or not, I am on antenna.

In fact, The Guild has a new video out as we type.

If you own a Playstation 3 you can install Vidzone, a downloadable application that allows you to create your own playlist from a database of thousands of videos. You can then watch most videos in full HD on your TV. All completely free of charge (but with a commercial thrown in occassionally)

At my local KFC they play music videos all the time, as their TVs are tuned to Channel [V], and I noticed today that all the videos I saw while eating lunch were from arrogant misogynists in shiny pants and small hats.
