Anybody remember Oqo - well hey! look, it’s nearly ready for market! - I think I’ll just pop down the shops in my Moller SkyCar and buy one!
Wow.
Did you watch the video for the OQO? It’s like an advertisement for a T-800 Model 101 Terminator or something. Freaky weird. . .
Tripler
I’m sorry, no computer should be that small . . .
I wont even by a laptop cause I’m scared of losing it. I’d probably lose that thing on the way out the store.
I’m holding out for the Flipstart.
The history of computing video is the neatest!
Umm… keen product, but why does anyone need a computer that small? It’s neat but the ergonomic compromises re the screen and keyboard make it a questionable bet. Who is the target audience here other than secret agents or Stuart Little? I can get a far more functional Sony micro-notebook for $ 2000 that only weighs a pound or two and has a workable screen and keyboard. It’s probably going to be 5 to 10 times as expensive as a PDA. Who’s it for?
I think the idea has potential; a machine that can be docked to behave as a desktop machine at work and home, but that is fully usable as a PDA on the move - being able to pick up your entire computer and put it in your pocket is a nice idea.
Trouble is the oqo has been too long on the drawing board; the spec isn’t particularly impressive (20GB HD? 1Ghz processor?) and most of what they’re trying to offer to the mobile user is just as easily done on a PDA.
I think this is what they call ‘vapourware’ - wondrous contraptions that will forever be ‘available just a few months from now’.
