Sorry this is so late after the fact, but I had to take a tincture of time to fully appreciate the full flavor of the experience, bask in the memories, and wallow in my own crepulence. I was also busy.
Arden Ranger, the most huggable hostess, gets my highest praise for organizing it. It was wonderful to spend time with her IRL to really put a face and voice to one of my favorite screen names and posters. Her choice of Athapaskan Moe’s as a meeting site was also first rate! As was her recommendation of the cheese fries! Got the photos now, love?
Ginkgo is a lot cooler than he’ll own up to. I must remember to whack him until he posts more. He’s got a fascinating job and a lot of expertise in his field which I hope he’ll share more of. He’s wise in years and experience. And he looks 20 years younger than he really is. This can’t be fair.
Sewalk, rememberer of hats. Now he’s lived in interesting times! Imaginary impression after meeting, going on in my head:
Sewalk: I can kill a person with one blow.
Qadgop: I’ll just have the salad, then.
But his screen name should really be The Iron Marshmallow. He turned out to be the second most-huggable, after Arden. Email me, Sewalk, and I’ll get the photos to you, too!
A grand and interesting get-together, I’m glad I did it. Looking forward to more IRL encounters with you, and other dopers!
I got 'em. Thanks, babe. They’re first rate once I cut that horrid looking female out of them.
As I mentioned in the post I made afterwards to the original thread, you are a sweetie and it was great to meet you. 'Fess up. When you’re alone with the Mrs, you lower your voice and do a Barry White type of thing. redtail23, fear not! We’ll be having another one so we can get more of the Oklahoma Dopers in attendance!
Oooh, cool new sig, if I ever tire of Puller. We’ll just ignore the Iron Marshamllow thing. I am a bit puzzled by the imaginary dialogue, though; I am one of the most non-violent people I know, not that I don’t occasionally dream about killing certain people…[sub]not that any Dopers are on that list…yet[/sub]
You will, of course, post the photos online so we can ALL see them?
Evidence of felonies or other compromising situations may be withheld, if absolutely necessary, but posting candid snaps and group photos is mandatory. Re-read your membership agreement.
::Backing into thread slowly, arms over head, fearing a tremendous whacking by Qadgop the Mercotan::
Qadgop, of course, is the most huggerific of all. But you say that Arden Ranger is the most huggable, followed by Sewalk? That makes me fourth! Out of four Dopers! Suddenly the problems with my love life are coming into sharper focus…
Note to self - remember to spend more time in the sun and live a harder life so I will look my age - maybe then the babes will show more interest.
Sorry, this cloak and dagger stuff has me a little confused. Ummm… Wait a minute… You’re right! My pics were destroyed in a tragic hard drive mishap. Whatever shall I do?
The Philistine comment came when I asked about your screen name, then displayed what I’m sure was a completely blank look when you explained. It didn’t help that Qadgop knew exactly what you were talking about. I need to expand my horizons. Care to educate me?
Must be another ex-Okie. I’ve been here in South Carolina for four years, and believe it or not, the only CFS I’ve found is at Chili’s. And after all this time, I’m happy to get one.
God, I miss Ann’s on 39th in OKC. And I miss good Tex-Mex. And I miss Charcoal Oven’s chiliburger and chilidog. Funny, though, about all I miss from Oklahoma is the food.
While I’m on food, though, do any of the OKC Dopers go to Tony’s on Penn, just north of 23rd, near Shepherd Mall (if it’s still there)? I miss Tony’s too.

I used to live about a half mile from there…we went there twice, tried eating there, but both times after waiting over half an hour just to get a menu (in an empty restaurant, with another couple complaining about not getting their salad) we went ahead and left.
Maybe they’ve gone downhill? Sorry to have to tell you.
Then I won’t tell you I had lunch at Chelino’s (not the so-so one in Bricktown but the really good one on 44th St) yesterday. I also won’t tell you I ate so much I wasn’t the least bit hungry at dinner. I also really feel for transplanted Okies when it comes to CFS. OKC is the mecca for chicken fried steak lovers everywhere.
They must have. Just after my daughter was born, Mamma (the old lady who worked as hostess) would seat us, then take our six-month old baby so that “Mamma and Papa can eat” and introduce her to everyone in the restaurant. We’d get fed, liquified*, and loaded with good music** for less than $25 including the tip and take food home with us.
For those not in the know, at the time at least, Tony’s was a little Italian place–all red sauce–with the red-and-white checked tablecloths and netted candle holders: the hole nine yards.
I’m sorry to hear it’s gone downhill. Maybe Mamma died; she was up there several years ago.
We’d order two half-carafes of house wine, one red (for me) and one white (for the Mrs.).
** Three songs for a quarter, and the jukebox was loaded with Sinatra, Dino, and Tony Bennet.
