Remembrance Day - Thank You

A short thank you to all those who served their country with honour and bravely uphold our constitutional and democratic values.

This Rememberance Day may be less social than others, but let us nonetheless remember those who fought for our freedoms. Freedom isn’t free. And if you don’t throw in your $1.05, who will?

Here in the US it is Veterans Day, but we too honor and remember that at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the Great War ends.

Indeed we do.

And the only reason it’s not Memorial Day for us, is because we already had our existing Memorial Day holiday that dates back to shortly after the Civil War.

“Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb’red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.”

Management threw a breakfast bash in honor of the day. Baked apple French toast, and some scrambled egg thing that looked like someone dumped the sink trap into it. And mimosas. I’ve yet to run into anybody out here who isn’t a veteran himself who knows WTF a Seabee is. Well, that’s actually a lie. I went to the grocery for a few things this morning and the cashier saw my tee and said that her uncle was a 'Bee. Even when I explain that it’s the Naval Construction Force, I just get a vague nod and an “Oh”.
