Removing Branding on Laptop?

I purchased a sager np2740 laptop online at xoticpc and i recalled there was an option to remove the sager branding. It doesn’t cost anything extra. I bought this laptop b/c i needed a fast laptop for online poker thus i7 quad core computer. I also wanted it to be 14.1 and thin and this laptop is that so basically its fast and pretty portable. I’m sure many of you who play games or don’t play games probably doesn’t want a laptop where its like a big red alien as in those alienware laptops if u use them in a public place. Well i know there are ppl who don’t mind it but you probably know what i mean by that.

The gallery picture of this laptop looks pretty nice. I didn’t remove the sager branding but thought about it for a bit before i decided not to. The thing is however if i said alienware or msi or those other gaming laptops… i would definitely remove the branding. However, would you say its fine to keep the sager branding? I never knew much about sager, i only had Dell and Asus and when i used my asus 14.1 laptop in public, i always had ppl tell me this laptop is very good looking. It basically looks like a macbook except it isn’t and everything about it physically looks great so i wanted to use a sager one similarly although 99 percent of the time, laptop will be inside.
The thing is do most ppl even know what sager is? If i see someone with a sager laptop and as long as it isn’t those huge laptops, i would never assume its a gaming laptop. I also read that sager has business laptops and other types in addition to the gaming ones. But I just don’t like to have a laptop where if ppl look at it, it looks like a gaming laptop. I don’t play any games besides online poker on the computer. I also read that its true that if you remove the sager branding on the laptop, if you were to resell it in the future on ebay etc, the price actually is a bit higher than without the sager logo on the computer?
I’m not 100 percent sure if i could even ask to have the sager branding removed b/c i know they order just went through recently so there might be a chance they could still remove the branding if they are not in the phase yet. I use xoticpc. But would you all say its fine keeping the sager branding on the laptop? It really doesn’t look that bad in the gallery pictures. I read a review where someone mentioned their sager laptop and loved it b/c it doesn’t look like a gaming laptop and its very fast. That person also removed the sager branding.

To be honest, it looks pretty good without the branding. I don’t know but if i see a laptop without any branding on it, such as no dell, asus, hp or another brand, i would assume the laptop is either a very cheap laptop or an expensive customized laptop. Would you agree/disagree with this? But more often than not, i would assume its a cheap one. Has anyone here had a laptop where they removed the brand whehther it was sager or whatever it is? I also assume there is no way i could remove the branding letter on right? Example my asus branding on my laptop at the moment which i currently am using, i dont believe it offered the option to remove the asus log on it and its not possible to do it as its pretty much on the laptop.

Sometimes there are generic OS and driver loads for laptops, but increasingly, the drivers and OSware needed to work with that hardware set have the branding and gritware embedded.

I remember one cheap HP desktop, one of three I bought in a hurry for staff use, that had HP elements on the desktop my very best efforts were unable to erase. I searched every process tree, registry entry, deep level of \Users and \System, and could never get rid of the last few items.

Sucks.

I find it hard to imagine why anyone would care either way (unless you are talking about proprietary crapware, as Amateur Barbarian seems to be).

I’d like to boot a system without it loading a lot of proprietary crapware, but beyond that, I don’t really need HP or Toshiba or Dell or whomever shouting their ownership from every menu and pane.

I bought a Sager from xoticpc earlier this year.

Sager computers are just Clevo’s with “Sager” printed on the case. When you order one “without branding” they’re not taking the “Sager” off, they’re just not putting it on.

Are you talking about simply removing the physical name or logo that is on the outside of the laptop?

Yes I am. Thats why i was confused why the first few responses i got were about the programs of a laptop…

Do u have the sager printed on the case? I assume you did? Which sager laptop did you buy by the way? I assume you got it printed on the case but would you like it better if it didn’t or no big deal at all to you no matter what.

To be honest, the labels on the case have never much bothered me one way or the other. The only one that does is the light-up apple - absolutely everything else aside, it’s annoying and pretentious.

My primary workstation actually has a nice aluminum plate and logo reading “Barbarian Computing Systems” - a relic from a long-defunct minor player in the game that happened to share my last name. I move it from system to system. All of which I build from scratch, avoiding any branding issue besides Antec.

No, I went with unbranded. I bought an NP7378, specifically just to play games on (I have a fairly new Macbook Pro, and I was running Windows on that but it just wasn’t cutting it). I like the look of just the plain black case, and it gives me the option to decorate it as I please without having to figure out a way to cover the logo, so I was pleased I had the option to get my computer without.

Do you ever have plans of selling this laptop later on the future?

Do you know if its true sager laptops are worth more on ebay if it has sager printed on it as oppose to nothing on it?

Right now i kinda want to have no branding and not sure if xoticpc already did it or not as recently the order has been processed so not sure if they did the printing sager into it yet.

I tend to hold on to my old computers. I’ve got a stack of desktops and laptops in my basement just gathering dust.

No idea. Among people who know what they are, they have a good reputation. Laypersons are probably more comfortable with names they know like Dell or Toshiba but frankly IMO those are equal or inferior products, but with huge marketing departments.

Call them up. I had to call them a few times when I was buying my computer and they were very nice and accommodating. As long as it hasn’t made final shipment to you, I’m sure they can still make changes, especially one that is just cosmetic.

Yea i will contact them to see if they can still do that or if they haven’t done it yet. But would you say you the logo really isn’t that big of a deal though? I mean as long as it isn’t alienware with that big alien red thing on it, it seems fine. I looked at the gallery of it and it looks pretty nice.
The logo looks very similar to my asus so thats why i figure just leave the branding there.
The thing i thought was it would kinda look cheap if there was no branding at all but then you have others that say hey it looks customized. Sager just doesn’t sound like a brand most ppl heard of so it kinda sounds like a cheap laptop but i actually don’t want it to be known as a gaming laptop even though its an expensive laptop and gaming laptop if u know what i mean.

My personal feeling is that “Sager” doesn’t look like a cheap budget brand. It looks like an expensive computer, with or without the logo, and it’s not cartoony like some gaming laptops can get, like with the neon-colored backlit keyboards and lights all over the case.

It could be as njtt suggests, it is hard to imagine why someone would care about such a thing. Are you a teenager, perchance?

If I wanted to anonymize a laptop that didn’t offer the service through the vendor, I’d probably go with some sort of skin. There are plenty of options out there with varying degrees of permanence.

There’s “legitimate”* reasons to care. You may not want a logo on it that invites theft by advertising it as a high end laptop. You may just feel that you spent X-Many-Dollars on it and not so you can advertise for someone. Or you may feel the opposite and want the world to know you have a high end machine (hardly a ‘teenager’ thing)

*Really, since it’s your money just about any reason is legitimate.

Got another question. My asus laptop i connected it to a monitor via VGA the blue cable.
I also have an xps 8100 desktop that could connect to a monitor by either VGA or DVI- the white/gray cable.
With my asus u45jc-a1, is vga or hdmi my only 2 options to connect to a monitor?
I assume hdmi is always an option to connect from any laptop to a monitor? Is hdmi basically any method of connecting computer to monitor such as vga or dvi?
I took a look at the sager 2740 laptop specifications and i see hdmi but i don’t see vga or dvi. Does that mean i will have to get an HDMI cable to connect to a monitor? Or does it has the vga or dvi? Obviously if it has vga or dvi i wouldn’t need to get an hdmi cable. Just want to make sure here.

Looks like you’ve only got HDMI and Mini DisplayPort outs.

Would either of these be fine for the sager 2740 and an external monitor?

Also, whats the difference between with ethernet vs the one without?

Also, is there a reason why ppl need very long hdmi? I assume if you going to connect a laptop to a big tv across the room, you going to need a pretty long hdmi? But if you just going to connect the monitor to the laptop very close, then 10 feet is more then enough? I will be connecting the sager 2740 to an external monitor the whole time and want to make sure it would work
