Ren & Stimpy music

Odd question, I know. In my quest to collect all the music used in the classic Ren & Stimpy cartoons, I’ve stumbled across this in a FAQ somewhere.

I was able to track down and collect a lot of Raymond Scott’s music (great stuff… “Powerhouse” is the name of the “assembly line” theme you often hear in old Loony Tunes cartoons). What concern’s me is the “50’s style TV themes and takes” that the FAQ mentions. People familiar with Ren & Stimpy know what I’m talking about. The question is, where can I find and procure this music? What is it even called? Are there any well known song titles in the “50’s style TV theme” genre that one of you can toss at me?

Wow! I get to be one of those annoying people who correct newbies! Yay!!!

Welcome to the boards. A thread like this belongs ins Cafe Society, since it deals with entertainment. I know, it’s weird, but Cafe society is relativy new and them’s the rule,so to speak.

Off to Cafe Society.

According to this site, it’s called “Dog Pound Hop”.

A similar search would most likely turn up the titles to theme songs.

I may have misunderstood your OP. In which case, perhaps Henry Mancini did a bit of the music in question?

Im not exactly sure if this counts, but while I was taking Drivers Ed, we had to watch these old “Driver Safety” videos that were made in the 50’s, and featured such caracters as: Ajax Nerd, Ames Frem, and Big Sam the Busness Man…any way, the music used for those films is the same used by Ren and Stimpy. Sorry I can’t offer any cites.

First season episodes of Ren and Stimpy credit Associated Production Music, Capitol Production Music, and Screamin’ Lederhosen (which I believe was an in-house band that performed the opening and closing themes). Second season episodes on credit Associated, Capitol, and Raymond Scott (his Columbia recordings were used), and the new episodes produced for TNN/Spike TV credit Associated.

Production music is not sold to the general public (I should know), but there were two volumes of Music for TV Dinners released on Caroline/Scamp compiled by a man who wrote a book on production music that feature cues from the Associated library, a number of which were used on Ren and Stimpy. (John K. is credited in the acknowlegdements to these albums.) Associated has a website, feel free to visit. They have samples of many of their albums, but they’re in Flash buttons and take a while to load on a slow computer (possibly to fight piracy). The Capitol library no longer exists, but is currently owned by Ole Georg Music. according to an essay on Ren and Stimpy that appears in The Cartoon Music Book, written by the same guy who compiled the Music for TV Dinners.

And of course, the show did utilize some originally written pieces from time to time, most famously the Log jingle and, of course, Happy Happy Joy Joy.
