Rename your local professional team and win Big Bucks!!!

I figure this has to be the coming thing, and I am collecting ideas for a big future payoff.

Now that professional franchises are starting to be named after corporate entities instead of their home cities (there are at least two examples I know of, one a Canadian hockey team and the other some kind of Japanese franchise), there’s potential for team owners and players to rake in even more cash. All we have to do is get over the silly sentimental urge to name teams after their home cities.

I mean, wouldn’t you go to see the Coors Broncos? You’d still know what city they were in. Maybe “Denver” could be retained in small letters under “COORS”.

Anyway, with future stadium cost overruns in mind, here’s a natural substitute for the poorly chosen “Houston Texans” NFL franchise name. It combines a recognized local corporate presence with an image opponents will dread:

The Chevron Black Tide.

T-shirts and caps will go like wildfire. Trust me.
More ideas?

What hockey team are you refering to? It isn’t one of the NHL teams, is it an AHL or IHL team or CMJHL team?

I’m guessing he’s talking about the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL.

Nope, but it was some species of minor-league team. The name format was on the order of the “Molson Tigers”.
