Renewing Expired ID Card And Address Change in NY

I have an identification card, not a drivers license that has expired few months ago. I didn’t go and renew it and want to renew it now. The other thing is my address in the old identifcation card, i no longer live there and thus need a new address change as well.
I checked online and it says if i renew my id in person, i cannot change my address at the same time. Is this true? I read that you can change your address online and it takes a while. So that means if i want to renew my id and have my new address shown… that means i first need to change my address online first… wait 1 week till i see my address is changed. Then i go to the dmv to renew my id so the new id that gets sent to my home will show the new address as oppose to the old one?
I called the DMVs phone number online and all of them are busy not surprisingly as theres lot of ppl who go there everyday.
Has anyone here had to renew an expired id and also needed to change the address at the same time can tell me how its suppose to be done? I was going to head to the dmv earlier until i read online u cant just renew the id and say i want my address changed to this one etc.
Also if you can change your address at the dmv, do they need proof besides your old id/passport? Or would they need some type of utility bill whether its an electricity bill, phone bill or bank bill that shows the new address you want it to be before they let you change it? I figure your old expired id and passport would be sufficient?

Actually, you can avoid a trip to the DMV if the ID is only expired for a few months. First, change the address online ( you probably will need proof to do this in person) , and then once the address is updated in their system renew the ID. It’s not as if going in person will get you the new ID card that day- it’s still going to be mailed to you.

Its expired for a few months yes. The thing is if i change the address online first, how long would it take to be updated in their system? Example if i do this online now… how soon can i go to the dmv to renew my expired id so when they send out my id… it will show the new address and not the old one?
Yes i know im not going to get the new id on the same day. Read it takes 2 weeks or so.
Thus if i do it now, then i go to dmv tomrorow to renew my id… wouldn’t that be a problem since it probably isn’t updated yet and then my id sent to me 2 weeks later will still show my old id?

Why go to In person at all? Change the address online today , log in every day or two to see if it’s been updated (should only take a couple of days) and then renew online

Instead of just changing your address online, I’d wait until someone comes along here and answers your question. It could be this afternoon, it could be a few months from now, or never. Definitely waiting for a response on here would be the best route to go.

Seriously, what’s the downside of just changing it online now?

Call the DMV and ask. I moved to NY from IL over a year ago, and they were surprisingly helpful.
