Renting an Exotic Car in the US.

Exotic cars are above my price range to buy. However, it would be interesting to be able to drive one for a little while.

I found this thread that indicates that high-end dealerships may not even allow the average Joe to test drive one

How much would it cost in the US to, say, rent a Lamborghini Murcielago for the weekend? How much of my life savings would I need to put down as a security deposit, and how much would it cost me in the end? Would I need a fancy background check, beyond that necessary to rent a Honda Civic at the local airport or test drive a new Chevy across town?

Check out this site: http://www.exoticcarrental.com/

I have no idea how reliable that site is but I do know there are companies which will rent exotic cars to you.

I looked into this once a long time ago because I, too, wanted to drive one at least once. The prices however are astronomical. Yes, cheaper than buying one but for a few hours the price is really, really steep.

One site I checked renting a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder costs $1,299/day.

This company, Beverly Hills Rent a Car, will rent exotic cars. They have Southern California locations and one in Las Vegas. I can’t see a Murcielago in their fleet, but they do have a Gallardo.

(Edited to add, given the Los Angeles locations, I’m guessing that they may have started by supplying cars for film and television shoots.)

Add on $2.50/mile driven.

A friend rented a 5 or 600 HP Viper for her son when he got his MBA. It was only $500 a day, this about 3 years ago. You did have to put up a fair bit of collateral in case for any reason it wasn’t in tip top shape ready to be rented out again the next day. In other words if you wrecked it you’d be paying for all repairs PLUS 500 every day it was in the shop.

She and I took it out for a spin… Hella ride!

$1995/day for a 2007.

You’re right about not being able to test drive exotics. Dealers have such tiny stocks and the depreciation is so huge after even a few hundred miles that it’s a case of look but don’t touch. NB this only applies to the average Joe. If you turn up in a $100,000 vehicle, the sales team are often happy to come to some sort of arrangement

Peanuts! It’d cost you $1500 (weekday) or $1600 (weekend day) in Toronto – add another $100 for a convertible.

Well head on down to Chicago and rent one!

I’d be happy to take a spin.

I’ll buy you a beer afterwards as my part.

This NYC & Miami company has one, but you have to ask for a quote/price.

My husband wanted to rent a Corvette (convertible) for our road trip to New Orleans, but the rental company doesn’t allow their cars to be taken out of state. :frowning:
