On the front of my house, the previous owner installed vinyl gutters. Where they are supposed to be joined together, they don’t. There had been repairs done with some sort of rubbery caulking, which has not held.
When it rains, I get lovely ponds in the front of the house, which I would like to stop.
The gutters are square, so parts are not easy to find. Plus, going with all the other “upgrades” the owner did at that time, I presume they were the cheapest quality available.
I was thinking going the Gorilla route - either the tape or the spray. What are your opinions?
It’ probably hit the inside and outside with either flex seal or flex tape and see if that helps. Without knowing exactly what the shape of your gutter looks like, my other thought would be to find something that roughly matches the shape, but a hair smaller. If you can find something that fits into the gutter and and doesn’t leave an enormous gap, you might be able to get away with putting down some really heavy beads of caulk on either side of the break and setting this in there. Just be careful you don’t end up with a dam that would hold too much water on one side.
Would something like a square vinyl fence post work?
can you replace it ?
We’d probably need more info (what your diy is like, what tools/ladders you have, budget etc)
to be more help. Pics might be a start.
I hopped up on the ladder yesterday to take a better look at them and clean them out.
The problem is at the joints. The bracket is not holding the pieces together. Currently there is very poorly placed, broken, globby silicone caulk at the two joints that appear to be causing the problems.
No matter the solution, I will be removing the currently useless caulk if anything to begin with a flat(ish) surface. I am not talented with a caulk gun on flat ground, let alone on a ladder (I have a ladder phobia, but one does what one must), so something other than that would work best for me.
And I was incorrect - they are not completely square - they’re 2.5" x 3". Replacing the gutters is not in my budget, unfortunately. Luckily, they only put the crap gutters on the front of the house.
