Reporting a post

Earlier today I reported a post because it linked to a pornographic web site. It took some time for a mod to react - which is normal given the work loads and the time differences.

I was just curious though whether the same post would have triggered dozens of other reactions, just clogging the system. In other words, would it be advisable if you report a post, to state so in the thread itself as well, so others don’t have to bother? I did not do it, because of the ‘junior-mod’ mentality that might suggest, but on the other hand, it could save time. Any thoughts on this from the admin/moderating point of view?

We’d far, far rather have a porn-link reported a dozen times, than run the risk of not spotting it at all (or not spotting it until very late.)

Yeah, there’s usually going to be a delay in reaction time – we’re not around 24/7, so it can take a li’l time. But the more folks who report it, the more chance someone will see it and catch it.

If you’d like to state in the thread that you’ve reported it, that’s OK, but frankly that just brings it up to the top and it attracts more attention. So, generally speaking, report it and let it lie.

Good thought, though, Drag.
