Representative George Santos: Indictment and Prosecution (Expelled from Congress on Dec 1, 2023)

Suppose that a member was constantly and rudely interrupting other members during speeches, or never showing up for votes without a good excuse such as illness. They should expel for that, even though it isn’t a crime.

Off-topic just a bit, but still related:

That makes sense.

I think that still works as part of the check on their power. The main issue I can see them driving at would be if a single party has a supermajority and kicks someone out for political reasons. In that case, I would 100% expect the state party to run the same candidate, as happened in Tennessee.

In short, I don’t see this precedent as too big of a problem. Now, if we start seeing actual partisan expulsions, even knowing they’ll get back in? Then I would object. It’s a waste of everyone’s time.

But I suspect we won’t, since, if you have enough votes to expels someone for political reasons, then you have enough votes to ignore them.

TMZ via Daily Mail?

There’s a picture showing somebody fell who dresses like Santos. His watch broke? Maybe.

According to Wikipedia, TMZ pays sources. This incentivizes making stuff up.

An article discussing why NY Republicans led the charge against Santos, and whether it will affect seats in New York in the future. I guess they’re (the Democrats) going to use the former astronaut and owner of five patents for green technology as political capital after all.

Given how much of the R party seems to be obviously mostly about grifting these days, or at least about shrieking hypocrisy, it certainly makes sense nationwide to trumpet about Santos’ totally fake schtick and then ask pointed questions about the many similarities between Santos and the local R candidate. Or the eventual national R candidate.

Also for the R party: “We’re not grifters or con artists. Remember George Santos? That’s how we deal with liars and conmen. We’re nothing like that, and we won’t tolerate it!” as they nudge & wink at each other.

Any chance of him running for president? Santos/Devolder in '24.

Which is exactly why the representative speaking against expulsion (Williams NY-22nd IIRC) saying that the House should respect the voters’ choice was laughable. Maybe he has a point if the guy they thought they were voting for was the actual guy.

Trump hasn’t named a running mate yet. And it’s a short list of possibilities who can make Trump look like the good one.

He could pick a certain governor and run as DeSantos.

And now you can get Santos to record you a birthday greeting or share the latest Beltway gossip on Cameo for the low price of $200!

I wonder if you can pay him to impersonate you. I heard he has experience pretending to be someone he isn’t.

Could be handy for dealing with awkward situations you don’t want to be involved in.

omg I watched one of these, and it was just, not unexpectedly, the cringiest thing ever. It’s a hard fall from making $200K a year plus benefits!

I can’t imagine any situation that couldn’t be made worse by me sending George Santos in pretending to be me.

Worse… Or better? At least if you are a fan of situation comedies.

I ain’t giving that guy my credit card number. I already know how that would go.

Not that I’d want a video of him anyway, but just saying.

He doesn’t get the number, Cameo brokers the transaction. (I got one as a gift for my wife a while back.)

Of Santos?

Gulp.

Heh. No. Her favorite comedian.

He made a nice long video for her. Highly personalized. Very good gift.
