Representative George Santos: Indictment and Prosecution (Expelled from Congress on Dec 1, 2023)

He doesn’t seem to be fading into obscurity, we’re talking about him here.

After all, Giuliani also did Cameo for a while, and it doesn’t seem he was super enriched by it…

And across the pond so did Nigel Farage of UKIP. Cameo needs better failed politicians.

It’s the failed politicians who need the money.

Well, we can also now hope that as he lacks even a hint of government benefit, all the non-federal/state lawsuits start piling up - I’m sure there are plenty of other financial chicanery (and not even well DONE tricks) that are going to turn up, and I’d love to see him get of out jail and be so broke that he sneaks back into the representative’s offices to avoid sleeping on the streets until his formal rights are revoked.

The problem is most of Santos’ antics leave a bad taste in the mouth. Not all, but most. I agree that a sitcom with a con-man in the center has potential, but I don’t think the producers would want to make him a member of congress. Maybe a private eye? Or a lobbyist?

As an example, Mission Impossible was based in part on the 1940 book, The Big Con: The Story of the Confidence Man by David W. Maurer | Goodreads.

I doubt whether Santos would be of much help to the scriptwriters. He just isn’t that good at what he does.

Damn direct tv and ABC are fussing and so I don’t have any recordings this week. I’m sad. I really like his show.

That’s why a comedy, featuring him as a useless moron would be perfect.

You can watch it on ABC.com. I thought I had Celebrity Jeopardy recorded tonight and when I tried to watch it, I found out about the dispute. I watched it online instead.

Who in AFTHotWttF is based on a real-world historical character?

Pseudolus and Miles G;oriosus are characters from comedies by Plautus. Who was probably ripping off some Greek comic writer.

I thought Plautus himself was in it, perhaps as a narrator…? I guess I must be misremembering.

You may be thinking of Pseudolus — who, as @CalMeacham noted, was a crafty slave in Plautus comedies. He does what exposition there is in both the stage play and film (citation: yours truly, who played Pseudolus in summer theater mumble-mumble years ago).

The Dem candidate has been announced, Tom Suozzi, mentioned above. No R candidate announced yet.

And another article:

It’s 2023 folks! The possibilities are SO much broader than that now.

Ahhh, New York Democrat politics… so heartwarming to see traditions being upheld :smirk: We may return to normality yet…

George Santos is talking to the feds about a plea deal.

hidden by What Exit?

Regarding the plea deal article above, “A trial has been set for Sept. 9, 2024. On Tuesday, Santos’ lawyers requested the trial date be moved to June, but the judge said she has a heavy case load and it is normal for such a case to take a year before trial, leaving the date unchanged.”
What would be the advantage to Santos to have the trial in June rather than in Sept.?

Meanwhile, campaign emails started last week, and this is the 2nd one I’ve received from Tom Suozzi:

"It’s official! I am the nominee in the special election to replace George Santos
[a glossy photo of Suozzi was here, and in it he looks fit and relatively young for 61, but Discourse won’t allow me to embed it]

“Gkster”, it’s Tom Suozzi. Seth Moulton asked me to reach out with an important message.

Big news!! I was officially nominated as the Democratic nominee to take back the seat formerly held by George Santos!

Now, we have a special election on February 13, 2024. That is only 68 days from now!!

This will be a tough special election. National Republican groups will spend millions against me. With your help and the help of a grassroots team we can win NY-03.

REMOVED

Thank you so much for your support.

Tom Suozzi"

I feel like I’m missing some context, here. Is there something we should know about Suozzi?

Now I’m totally confused. Who is the Democratic nominee? Is it
Tom Suozzi?
Seth Moulton?
gkster?
If it is you gkster, good luck.

With the news today that the NY courts have cleared the way for the Democratic-controlled state legislature to redraw the Congressional map for the 2024 election, whoever wins the special election is likely to face a more Democratic district in the general election.
