For anyone who thinks that George Santos is totally un-electable, consider these facts:
Fact 1: He might be endorsed by a popular Republican who, in addition to glowing with the same bright orange hue as a dying sun, has told more lies in a single day than Santos has in his entire life, and has effectively positioned himself as mein Fuhrer of the Republican party.
Fact 2: He seems to have abandoned his distinctive black-frame glasses, so that voters – exhibiting all the perception and wisdom we usually associate with voters – will not know he is.
So voters are people in the Superman universe?
I was literally just about to post “so he’s using the Clark Kent strategy?”
“I’m George Santos.” Dramatically takes glasses off “now I’m Anthony Devolder and I fight for lies, autocracy, and the Russian way!”
Better Clark Kent than Tom Ripley…
Slight correction: "own the libs", anti-science, election denying, fascist-supporting, percieved-priviledge-losing Republican voters.
I am pretty sure I know why Santos is running.
CNN: George Santos appears in federal court as trial looms later this year
The next court proceeding is scheduled for August 13. A trial is expected in September.
I expect this is a delaying tactic inspired by his dear leader Donald Trump, to request pushback of the trial in order to not interfere with the election. I have a feeling it won’t work, but that’s my WAG.
A reasonable theory.
Is he going to run in the same district as before, or will he pull a Boebert?
Allegedly boeberting to NY-1 so he can primary challenge Rep. LaLotta, one of the R’s who led the calls to remove him. i.e. he wants to try to cost the NY GOP another district.
…or will he pull a Boebert?
I thought it was Boebert doing the pulling?

Is it a firmly red district, or is there a chance for a Dem to slip in?

Looks like recently a 4% spread.
It’s rated R+3, although the current R won by 10 points in 2022.
But even if it stays R, there’s the risk of collateral damage. Every NY Democrat could use Santos as an example of the ridiculousness of the Republican party, whether they’re running against him directly or not. That could sway a close race.

It’s not like the Democrats are going to suffer from a lack of examples of that in 2024.
And it potentially forces LaLotta to waste time and money up front that he could use to support other R candidates or in his own general campaign.
OTOH George can just be throwing shit around for the lulz.

That’s quite true. But the “NY” bit is probably superfluous.
D’s all over the country should be decrying the sort of party that embraces a Santos as a good example.
This just in from X. George is now filing as an Independant.

It’ll probably go the other way. The Republicans will hold up Santos’ removal from office as an example of how they uphold moral standards (ignoring the reality that they were forced by the Democrats) in order to draw attention away from the fact that they’re running a much worse candidate as their Presidential nominee.
